Chapter 1950: Heart Pounded Like a Jackhammer

After much consideration, Jonathan decided to help Coralie. He was, after all, responsible for the car accident. However, since learning she was Shawn's sister, he'd felt inexplicably averse to her.

Before going to the hospital, he stopped at Madilyn's mansion, delivering traditional supplements to Lorraine after leaving the police station. Lorraine enthusiastically helped him carry the supplies and then offered him coffee.

"Are you free, Jonathan? Check on Madilyn. She's feeling unwell today," Lorraine requested. Only then did Jonathan notice Madilyn's car was still in the courtyard.

"What? Madilyn's sick?" Concern etched his expression as he immediately headed for the living room. Lorraine smiled; Madilyn wasn't truly sick, just exhausted and experiencing menstrual cramps.

Jonathan went to Madilyn's second-floor room. He knocked and called, "Madilyn? Am I disturbing you? How are you feeling? Should you go to the hospital?"

Awakened from her nap, Madilyn was startled by his voice, secretly pleased by his frantic tone.

"I'm fine. Why are you here?" she asked, quickly getting out of bed and changing. She assumed he wouldn't barge in, overlooking the unlocked door.

A sudden gust of wind swept in as she undressed, chilling her. She turned and saw Jonathan, instantly stunned. He was equally surprised.

"Ahh! Close the door!" Madilyn cried, covering herself and crouching. She felt mortified.

"I-I'm sorry!" Jonathan stammered, averting his gaze and quickly closing the door with a loud bang.

Downstairs, Lorraine heard Madilyn's cry. "What's wrong, Maddy?" she called.

"N-Nothing!" Madilyn shouted from the window. She silently cursed her embarrassment, relieved she'd only removed her pajama top.

Jonathan remained frozen, a tingling sensation coursing through him. He wasn't inexperienced with women, but he'd never felt this way before. This time, his throat was dry, his heart pounding like a jackhammer.

After about two minutes, Madilyn, still shy, finished dressing and washing. Jonathan, after a pause, finally spoke. "How are you feeling, Madilyn? You're a doctor; you should know."

The door opened slowly. Madilyn avoided his gaze, her blush returning. "I'm fine. If I were truly sick, I'd treat myself. What brings you here?"

As she approached, she felt her heart racing, so fast it felt like it might leap from her chest. A sudden abdominal pain caused her to wince.

"And you claim to be fine? Let's go to the hospital," Jonathan said, his gaze lingering on her face. He noticed her pained expression and panicked.
