Chapter 1956: She Is Just Like My Mom

The next day, Lucian accompanied Roxanne to the cemetery, where she paid her respects to her mother. A sudden drizzle quickly shrouded the cemetery in mist. Lucian, umbrella in hand, ensured Roxanne remained dry, even if it meant sacrificing part of his own protection.

Roxanne gazed at her mother's tombstone, where a photograph was embeddedโ€”a vibrant smile captured the first time her mother smiled genuinely since falling ill. Roxanne vividly recalled rushing home from school that day, finding her mother impeccably dressed after a visit to a photography studio. The radiant expression, coupled with a subtle reluctance in her mother's eyes, had filled Roxanne with a premonition of dread. Her mother passed away shortly afterward.

Roxanne felt her world crumble. The loss of her pillar of support left her numb. She barely remembers how many days she went without food or water, eventually holding a simple funeral with Grant, her mind detached from the proceedings.

Since then, Roxanne had buried her emotions. She silently endured life's hardships, allowing her wounds to heal on their own. She also vowed never to forgive Grant for his reprehensible actions. Soon after her mother's death, Grant married Winnie, introducing Yosef and Yuliana into Roxanne's lifeโ€”the beginning of her troubles.

Unbeknownst to him at the time, Lucian had become a beacon of light in Roxanne's darkness, the reason she continued to live. She was hopelessly in love. Marrying Lucian, a twist of fate that brought her to the Farwell family, made her indescribably happy, despite his initial lack of interest and perception of her as a gold digger. Fate, however, had other plans.

Before her mother's grave, Roxanne softly recounted Grant's current predicament. "He has gotten what he deserves!"

Lucian waited patiently. After helping her to her feet, he knelt before the grave. "Mom," he declared, "you can rest assured that I'll take good care of Roxanne and the children. I'll never let anyone bully them again. Please bless us."

A wave of warmth washed over Roxanne as she smiled at her mother's picture. "Mom, we're going now. I'll bring the kids next time. They've finally managed their monthly visits as promised. Aren't they dutiful to their grandmother?"

Leaving the cemetery, Roxanne felt not the sorrow of the past, but a newfound peace.

In the car, leaning against Lucian, she whispered, "Lucian, do you trust Grant? I still don't fully trust him."

"My feelings are the same," Lucian replied, putting his arm around her and pulling her closer, "but don't worry. I won't allow him any opportunity to harm you or the children."

Cayden, the driver, kept his eyes on the road. Lucian then answered a call from James.

"James said Mr. and Mrs. Lann will visit the children tonight. They probably want to thank us for helping Mrs. Lann last time. From James' tone, it seems her condition has stabilized."

Lucian admired Roxanne's decisive actions regarding the Lann family matter.

"That's wonderful! She's finally recovered. Mrs. Lann is such a kind person, so much like my mother. The idea came to me because the situation reminded me of the past, making me feel like I could do something for my mom."

Thoughts of her mother filled Roxanne's mind.
