Chapter 1992: Did Someone Switch Out His Brain?

Madilyn updated Roxanne on the developments regarding the hospital's bacterial outbreak. โ€œI checked on Christina at the psychiatric hospital. Sheโ€™s completely unhinged! Semi-conscious, unresponsive, and babbling nonsense. The doctors said she broke into the medication room in the middle of the night, took a massive overdose, and they barely saved her.โ€

Christina, the instigator, was now mentally incapacitated. The hospital staff received considerable recognition for surviving the ordeal, even receiving awards from senior health department officials. The hospital itself earned praise and the possibility of future inclusion in the list of medical insurance providers' designated hospitals.

Jonathan added, โ€œChristinaโ€™s criminal proceedings have begun. Regardless of her mental state, the crime carries a minimum fifteen-year sentence. And because of her actions, Elektraโ€™s sentence has been reduced.โ€

Lucian and Roxanne exchanged relieved glances. Whether she was Christina or Aubree, she would be out of their lives.

Jonathan continued, โ€œOh, one more thing. Lucian, after you acquired the Moranta patent, Mr. Goldstein suddenly canceled his trip to Chanaea. Perhaps he aimed to monopolize the market, but that failed. Or maybe itโ€™s connected to Christinaโ€™s mental breakdown.โ€

Lucian frowned and shook his head. โ€œNo. Someone like him wouldn't be swayed by Christina. His Chanaea plans simply fell through. Think about itโ€”what would you do if you wanted everyone reliant on your medicine?โ€

Roxanne and Madilyn were stunned.

Jonathanโ€™s gaze sharpened. โ€œI see. The hospital incident was a test. Mr. Goldstein knew about Christinaโ€™s plot and deliberately allowed it to happen!โ€

Lucian nodded. Jonathanโ€™s admiration for Lucian intensified. โ€œI didnโ€™t even consider that angle. Iโ€™m still too naive.โ€

They continued chatting until after eight oโ€™clock, when Jonathan and Madilyn left. Roxanne mused aloud about when Jonathan and Madilyn would confirm their relationship.

Lucian smiled faintly. โ€œI'm guessing very soon. Jonathan's finally seen the light.โ€

Roxanne shook her head skeptically.

They made a bet: if Jonathan and Madilyn confirmed their relationship within a week, Lucian would grant Roxanne any wish.

โ€œThis bet sounds good,โ€ Lucian grinned mischievously, confident of winning. โ€œShould it be your most hated task, or your greatest fear?โ€

If Roxanne won, she'd get to make Lucian do anything. She was hesitant, though; Lucian seemed willing to do anything she asked, anyway. Winning the bet would be pointless.

As the evening grew colder, Jonathan adjusted the carโ€™s heat and closed the window. Madilyn expected to be dropped off, but instead, he pointed out the beautiful moon and mentioned a spot perfect for stargazing.

She found it odd. Jonathan would never have done this before. What had changed? Did someone switch out his brain? Or was he some kind of reincarnated movie character?

Despite her doubts, she was overjoyed.
