Chapter 2059: Cannot Let Her Go
As night deepened, Roxanne noticed Elias and Sonya's exhaustion and urged them to bed. Young people could afford occasional late nights, she reasoned, but older people needed their rest to maintain their biological rhythms. Elias and Sonya nodded, reminding her to rest as well.
However, Roxanne couldn't sleep. She had just concluded her father's funeral and now grappled with the complexities of her mother's poisoning. Soon after, Cayden arrived at the Farwell Residence, reporting that Winnie's villa, titled under Yuliana's name, was being rapidly and cheaply sold off by multiple real estate agencies.
"Are they trying to run away?" Lucian raised an eyebrow, adding in a cold tone, "Buy the house. Drag out the procedures, and only provide a partial deposit. As long as Winnie hasn't received full payment, she won't leave." Securing the property, even at a higher price, offered the best control and allowed them to monitor Winnie and Yosef's movements.
"Honey, is everything alright with the police?" Roxanne asked.
Lucian nodded. "Yes, the procedure has begun. Are you certain about exhuming the remains tomorrow?"
Despite Chanacan cultural taboos, Roxanne was resolute. "Uncovering the truth about my mother's death is more important than tradition. Winnie won't escape justice!"
Lucian understood. "My father secured an experienced detective. He's a former coroner with seven or eight years' experience and will arrive shortly."
With preparations complete, Roxanne felt a measure of calm. That night, she dreamt of her mother. Though the conversation was vivid in the dream, its details eluded her upon waking. Perhaps she was trying to tell me something? Regardless, Roxanne's resolve to exhume the remains and conduct an autopsy only strengthened.
The next day, she completed her usual morning routineโpreparing her children for school and sharing breakfast before sending them off. Upon her return, she found her husband with an elderly, slender man in simple attire.
"This is Bill Chapman," Lucian introduced.
Roxanne greeted him. "Hello, Mr. Chapman. Thank you for your assistance."
Bill smiled. "Let's go. The weather's fine; we can proceed quickly. Have the police arrived at the site?"
Lucian confirmed the police presence at the cemetery. Their journey took half an hour.
The cemetery was serene, bathed in golden sunlight illuminating rows of headstones. Several police officers were already at Roxanne's mother's grave, photographing and collecting evidence.
Lucian, Roxanne, and Bill approached, Bill greeting the officers with evident respect. All eyes turned to Lucian and Roxanne, awaiting their approval. Roxanne nodded to her husband, receiving a reassuring glance in return.
"Officers, thank you for your hard work. Let's begin!" Roxanne announced.
In her heart, she addressed her mother: Mom, forgive my disobedience and the disruption to your peace. I must uncover the truth of your death. We cannot let that evil woman escape!
