Chapter 2070: She Must Be the Culprit
After treating the four private investigators to a feast and drinks, Winnie and Yuliana went upstairs to discuss the situation. Seeing her brother's misery, Yuliana gritted her teeth in frustration.
โRoxanne is trying to wipe us out completely, but she seems to have forgotten that cornered animals are the most dangerous,โ Yuliana hissed, a vicious glint in her eyes. โIf she keeps pushing us, we can hold her three children hostage!โ
Winnie understood the leverage a mother's worry provided. "The best course of action is to leave Horington first," Yuliana said. "Once we're in Gerton, we can consider going abroad." Her initial plan to obtain Roxanne's mother's heirloom was now secondary.
"But the police are after us," Winnie worried. "Leaving Horington won't be easy."
Yuliana nodded, then a sly smile touched her lips as an idea formed.
Night fell, and Roxanne and Lucian arrived at the Jarvis residence. Bill, leading a team of officers with search equipment, thoroughly examined the property, inside and out, to locate the family heirloom. Lucian's bodyguards also dug in the courtyard, exceeding their previous efforts and reaching a depth of six feet.
Roxanne frowned, racking her brain for clues about her mother's heirloom, sifting through childhood memories to no avail. The heirloom remained elusive, even after a thorough search. Winnie's years-long failure to find it made Roxanne question its very existence.
Bill returned from the courtyard. โIโve searched everywhere, and checked with neighbors,โ he reported. โThe heirloom is unlikely to be in the yard; it's more likely still inside the house.โ
"Where?" Roxanne asked, glancing at the house. They'd searched every conceivable hiding place.
Lucian cautiously ascended the stairs, hoping to discover a hidden compartment. Just as despair set in, Billโs phone rang. It was the head of Lucian's bodyguards.
โMr. Chapman, Yuliana has been living in the mansion since her return. A car just left; weโre following it now.โ
"Excellent. Don't lose them. There are still people in the mansion; keep an eye on them. They canโt rely on just one car!โ Bill instructed.
After the call, Bill turned to Lucian and Roxanne. โWinnieโs making a move. Two possibilities: destroying evidence or escaping.โ
Roxanneโs expression shifted. โEscape? Does that mean they no longer want to sell the mansion?โ
โI believe so,โ Lucian stated firmly, a glint in his eyes. โWhen I instructed Cayden to negotiate the sale, Winnie seemed anxious. But after questioning by the police, she appeared less concerned. Money is no longer a priority. She must be the culprit! But I won't let her escape, not in Horington, or anywhere else.โ
