Chapter 2074: A Crucial Detail

Upon hearing that voice, Roxanne felt as though long-sealed memories had been unearthed. A scene from the past surfaced in her mind: her mother and Rachel chatting while enjoying cakes under a tree. As the sun dipped below the horizon, young Roxanne emerged from her kindergarten, hurrying homeโ€”a distance of less than a hundred metersโ€”and calling, "Mommy, I'm home!" Her mother was then healthy, radiantly beautiful, and always smiling. Rachel, too, was young, newly married, and childless, often seeking her mother's advice on domestic matters. Roxanne wished that time could have lasted forever, but Grant had destroyed everything.

After a while, Roxanne regained her composure and updated Rachel on her life in Horington. Rachel responded, "When you married the Farwell son, I was happy for you. After hearing of your divorce, I wanted to find you, but couldn't. Many years have passed. Roxanne, it's a pity what happened to your mother." Her kind words warmed Roxanne's heart.

Roxanne recounted the years since her divorce, mentioning her remarriage to Lucian, her children, and her upcoming babies, hoping to reassure Rachel. Rachel was delighted. "Your mother must be watching over and protecting you from heaven." Roxanne agreed. "If you have time, visit Horington, Ms. Vasque. Or, if I have time, I'll visit you. Actually, there's something important I need your help withโ€”I almost forgot why I called!"

She inquired about an object her mother had left behind. Rachel pondered, then asked, "Is the tree in the courtyard still there?"

"I thought about that," Roxanne replied, "but the tree died years ago. I dug around it, but found nothing."

"In that case," Rachel said, "I have an idea, though I don't know if it will work. Is the wedding photograph still around?"

Roxanne nodded. "Yes, but I searched it thoroughly. There's nothing in the frame. Winnie would have checked everywhere, tooโ€”the television cabinet, ceiling light, even the fan."

"Is that so? Then I'll try to recall where it might be. Your mother was very kind to me; we were like sisters. I truly hate Grant!"

"Take your time, Ms. Vasque. No need to rush. Call me when you remember something. Here's my number..."

Their conversation continued, filled with shared memories. Meanwhile, Lucian, his brow furrowed, pulled Roxanne downstairs before she could react, drove to the Jarvis residence. The mention of the wedding photo had sparked a crucial detail in his mind: the frame wasn't ordinary wood; it was thick mahogany. A small item could easily be concealed within it.
