Chapter 2073: How Are You Doing Now?
The day after the wedding, Madilyn awoke believing herself at home, ready to go outside in her pajamas. Fortunately, Jonathan gently guided her back inside just as she reached the door. Fully waking, she realized her new status as the Queen family's daughter-in-law. He encircled her, his hands exploring her body. Stunned, considering their intimacy only hours prior, she felt her breath quicken. "Are there any other customs we haven't completed? Does your family require us to greet elders on our first day?" she asked, hastily changing the subject to discourage further teasing. The early morning noise would be embarrassing.
Jonathan shook his head, leaning closer. Madilyn quickly covered his mouth. "No, I haven't washed yet. Honey, don't."
Jonathan smiled playfully. "Hmm... Who was the one who took advantage of me while I was drunk?"
Madilyn glared. "Honey, let's wait until tonight. We must have things to do today. I'm going to wash up!" She fled to the bathroom.
Roxanne, growing impatient, called her best friend at 8:30 AM. Madilyn usually woke around then. She began by inquiring about the wedding; Madilyn reported everything went well and she was comfortable living with the Queens. Only then did Roxanne broach the Jarvis residence purchase.
"Madilyn, who did you make the deal with? Why did they move abroad afterward?"
"Roxanne, remember Ms. Vasque? Your mother's best friend. She bought it from Grant and never lived there, waiting for you to return. She only sold it to me after I revealed my intentions," Madilyn explained.
Roxanne's face froze. How could I forget Ms. Vasque?
Rachel Vasque, Roxanne's former neighbor, had been close to her mother. After her mother's illness, Rachel visited frequently, even giving Roxanne money. However, Rachel had moved from Horington due to her husband's job transfer. If it was her, everything made sense. Ms. Vasque didn't need to settle there, leaving the country with her family.
"Madilyn, can you still contact her? I have something crucial to ask her," Roxanne said anxiously, suspecting her mother might have left clues about her heirloom with Rachel. The secret would be safe with Rachel, awaiting Roxanne's search for the truth.
Sensing the urgency, Madilyn immediately agreed to find Rachel's contact information from the transaction. Soon, she obtained the number and gave it to Roxanne, who immediately called, anxiously waiting. After several rings, Rachel answered.
"Hello, Ms. Vasque. I'm Roxanne Jarvis. Do you remember me?" Roxanne's anxiety was evident.
A pause. Then, a soft voice, "Roxanne, have you finally returned to Horington? How are you doing now?"
