Chapter 231

The car pulled up to the hotel. Roxanne spoke, "Thank you. Just drop me off here." She nodded to Lucian and exited the car. As her feet touched the ground, she stumbled, nearly falling. The warmth of the car and the effects of the alcohol had made her drowsy, leaving her legs weak. Just as she was about to fall, a strong arm encircled her waist, pulling her back into the car. Lucian released her only after she regained her balance.

The intimacy of the moment left Roxanne speechless. Before she could react, Lucian opened the car door, exited, and moved to her side. "I'll walk you to your room," he said, waiting for her to get out. Hesitantly, she did, carefully this time. Lucian, retracting his outstretched arm, followed her.

Reaching her room, Roxanne stopped. "I can go in by myself. Thank you for your help today, Mr. Farwell. I'll treat you to coffee next time." Before she could close the door, however, Lucian entered. Roxanne stared at him coldly. "Mr. Farwell, don't you think it's inappropriate to follow me into my room? If you don't leave, I'll call security."

Lucian frowned. "I'm not planning to do anything. You can rest assured." Seeing her pallor, he felt uneasy. He walked to the nightstand and picked up the phone. "Hello? Please bring some hangover medicine," he told the receptionist.

Shortly after, a knock came. The door was ajar, and Roxanne saw a hotel staff member with hangover medicine and warm water. Lucian accepted them, thanking the staff. Approaching Roxanne, he said, "Take the medicine, and I'll leave."

Roxanne, unsure how to respond, complied. He then handed her the water. The scene would have surprised anyone who knew Lucian Farwell of Horington. Roxanne drank the water and looked up at him. "Can you leave now?"

Lucian frowned but said nothing, and left. After closing the door, he told Cayden, "Check me in here. I want the room next to hers." Cayden, surprised, quickly understood upon remembering Roxanne's occupancy. He immediately agreed.

Back in her room, Roxanne, though having taken the medicine, still felt dizzy. She washed up and went to bed. The alcohol's effects lingered, and her mind wandered to memories of six years agoโ€”her efforts to win Lucian's affection, her failed attempts, and then their recent reunion and his thoughtful gestures. These conflicting memories stirred mixed emotions.
