Chapter 262: The Tree-Planting Activity

The tree-planting activity began early the next morning. After breakfast, Pippa led the parents and children to the kindergarten's designated planting areaโ€”a space provided in collaboration with a local botanical garden.

Numerous staff members were present upon their arrival. Since the children were all from affluent families, the staff were particularly attentive.

Pippa introduced the parents to the staff, divided them into groups, and directed them to collect saplings. Estella reluctantly stared at Roxanne upon hearing about the group assignments. Despite the teacher calling her name, she refused to move.

Lucian frowned at this, his gaze shifting to Roxanne, who was keeping her distance. Following a conversation between Lucian and Aubree the previous night, Roxanne instinctively avoided them. Hearing the teacher call Estella, Roxanne took Archie and Benny's hands and walked away.

"Ms. Jarvis" Estella's gaze fell in disappointment.

Lucian, unprepared for Roxanne's action, was unsure how to comfort Estella. Noticing they remained behind, Pippa approached, worriedly asking, "What's the matter, Essie? Do you not like planting trees?" Estella silently shook her head.

Unsure of her feelings, Pippa turned to Lucian. "What has gotten into her, Mr. Farwell?" Lucian's expression darkened at Estella's disappointment and Roxanne's return with her sapling. Pippa wisely refrained from further questioning.

"Essie rarely participates in such events," Pippa offered. "It's understandable that she feels uncomfortable. Perhaps you should take her home, Mr. Farwell?" Estella reluctantly shook her head, indicating she didn't want to leave. She wished to spend more time with Roxanne.

Pippa, at a loss, considered solutions. Lucian then explained, "Ms. Jarvis's children are Estella's only friends here; it's natural she wants to be with them. She's upset about the group assignments." Estella nodded, her voice sweet, "I want Archie and Benny." Pippa's heart melted at this unusual display of affection.

"I'm sorry," Pippa apologized. "I overlooked this when grouping participants. Essie, you can join Archie and Benny's group."

Lucian nodded his thanks, leading Estella over. Her eyes lit up; releasing Lucian's hand, she ran to Roxanne.

"Essie must really like Archie and Benny," Pippa observed, relieved. "I rarely see her so happy." Lucian simply nodded and followed.
