Chapter 263: Planting Trees
Roxanne had collected three saplings to plant with her children, Archie and Benny. The boys were so excited they woke up very early that morning. Roxanne, seeing their enthusiasm, was happy to join them.
After receiving their saplings, the three followed the staff's instructions and began digging at their assigned spot. Roxanne wore matching sportswear to participate fully. Working together, they quickly finished the first hole.
They were about to start the second when a childish voice called out, "Ms. Jarvis!"
Estella stood excitedly beside Roxanne. Roxanne was shocked. "Essie? What are you doing here? I thought your spot was on the opposite side."
"I'm on your team, Ms. Jarvis!" Estella replied innocently.
Roxanne was confused. Lucian arrived, explaining, "Essie couldn't bear being away from you. I spoke to Ms. Ward, and she let us join your team. Is that alright, Ms. Jarvis?"
Roxanne frowned. She didn't want more trouble, especially after the previous night's incident. Estella's face fell at Roxanne's lack of response. Seeing Estella's sadness, Roxanne's heart softened.
"All right, Essie. You can join Archie and Benny," she said, making space for her. She gave each child a sapling.
The children were thrilled; it was their first time participating in such an activity, and having Roxanne there made it even better. Archie and Benny, being stronger, worked quickly. Estella struggled, getting muddy, but remained cheerful. Roxanne chuckled at her cuteness, helping her plant her sapling and fill the hole. Lucian borrowed a shovel and helped fill the holes.
The children struggled with the shovels, their hands shaking so much that little soil reached the holes. Roxanne wasn't worried with Lucian's help, but they were slow. Seeing Lucian's awkwardness with the shovelโa man of his status using a shovel in a coat and leather shoes!โRoxanne almost laughed. He was no better than the children, though his larger shovel held more soil.
