Chapter 289: I Will Take You There

Lucian was resolute. Aubree left, head hung low.

Elias and Sonya remained for a while with Estella, but the little girl remained disinterested, refusing to write despite being offered pen and paper. She only nodded or shook her head in response to their questions. Sonya felt bad; she knew Estella was traumatized by the previous night's events and could only offer her company.

That evening, Sonya reluctantly rose. "Should I bring Essie back? You're busy, and I'm afraid you can't properly care for her."

Lucian refused. "No, thank you." After last night, he wouldn't let Estella leave his sight.

Sonya said nothing more. She spoke briefly with Estella before leaving with her husband.

Lucian then redressed Estella's wound and took her upstairs to bed. She stared silently at the wound, unresponsive to his words.

Frowning, Lucian asked, "Does your wound hurt?"

Estella shook her head.

"What's wrong? Tell me," Lucian said patiently.

Estella pointed to the medicine on the table, then picked up the pen and wrote "Ms. Jarvis" on the paper.

Lucian's heart ached. "Do you want to give the medicine to Ms. Jarvis?"

Estella nodded firmly.

"The medicine in our house is effective. Ms. Jarvis has a similar injury, so she can use it. I miss her so much." Lucian glanced at the clock and ruffled her hair. "It's late. Ms. Jarvis is probably asleep. We'll visit tomorrow, okay?"

Estella hesitated, then nodded obediently. Ms. Jarvis must be tired from searching for me. She needs to rest.

Relieved, Lucian led her upstairs to bed. Remembering her fear that morning, he decided to stay with her. Exhausted from the previous night, he fell asleep after coaxing Estella to sleep.

The next morning, Estella woke him by repeatedly shaking him.

He opened his eyes to find Estella already dressed and waiting. He realized she wanted to immediately give Roxanne the medicine.

"Okay. I'll take you there," Lucian promised solemnly.

He washed up, then went downstairs with her. Estella retrieved the medicine from the medical kit, placing it beside her breakfast so they could leave afterward. Lucian sighed at her actions.

Perhaps this is their mother-daughter bond. They both worry about each other. I'm worried about Roxanne, too. Those unaware of what happened might think she was seriously injured, judging by Essie's reaction.
