Chapter 322: We Can Take Care of Mommy

The boys swam for nearly two hours. Afterward, Roxanne took them to lunch. On the way, she couldn't stop thinking about Archie's conversation with the man.

She watched the children in the rearview mirror for a long time before finally asking, "Archie, why did you say Mr. Farwell is your daddy?" She hadn't asked sooner to avoid spoiling their playful moods, but she could no longer contain herself.

Archie glanced at her innocently. "Because he's awesome and powerful!"

Roxanne was stunned. For a moment, she couldn't determine if he was lying.

"Besides," Archie added, "I think if we call Mr. Farwell, he'd probably rush over." He felt a little odd saying it. He disliked his father for wanting to marry another woman, but he was confident his father would come if anything happened to his mother. If not for Aubree, he would have accepted his father.

Roxanne was astonished; she found herself believing him. After returning from overseas and spending time with Lucian, she, too, believed he would have rushed to her, even if she wouldn't have appreciated it.

Realizing this thought, Roxanne pursed her lips self-deprecatingly. So what if he came? He's still marrying Aubree. We're destined to be strangers.

Dismissing the thought, she stopped suspecting her son. "Don't say things like that to others, okay? Mr. Farwell has a fiancée. If your words spread, it would hurt him and us."

The boys nodded, their hatred for Lucian deepening. What a bad daddy! they thought. Even though he's marrying another woman, Mommy's still thinking about him!

Remembering the earlier incident, Roxanne remained concerned. "If that happens again, protect yourselves. I can handle it. You're still children; you don't need to help."

The man's physique dwarfed the children's. If he had been more forceful… Roxanne shuddered to imagine. I doubt the security guards would have arrived in time, even if I'd called them.

As she finished speaking, rustling sounds came from the back seat. The boys straightened, declaring righteously, "We want to protect Mommy! That man was obviously a bad guy! Besides, you're all alone with us, Mommy!"

Roxanne's heart warmed; her expression softened. "You'll have opportunities to protect me in the future. I'll only worry if you do it now."

Archie replied sullenly, "We've already grown up! You've taken care of us for so long, Mommy. We can take care of and protect you, too! We may not have a daddy, but we can do what a daddy can do!"

Seeing his insistence, she couldn't crush his desire to protect her, so she smiled. "Thank you both in advance, then."

The children nodded earnestly.
