Chapter 328: The Boys' Background

After a series of examinations, Roxanne discussed Benny's condition with the doctor in the consultation room. Her concise and intelligent discussion surprised the doctor. After a while, he smiled and asked, "Miss, which hospital do you work at? Would you consider working here?"

Roxanne smiled humbly. "It's okay. I only know a little about this."

She then reminded her sons, "Quick! Thank the doctor."

Archie and Benny rose and bowed solemnly. "Thank you, doctor."

The doctor, charmed by their cuteness, replied, "You're welcome. Remember to take your medicine on time. You're lucky your mommy knows so much. Otherwise, things could have been worse, and you might have needed hospitalization. You should thank your mommy!"

The boys, with innocent smiles, turned and thanked Roxanne.

She caressed their heads, took the prescription, and left with them. Thankfully, she'd discovered Benny's illness early; his condition wasn't serious. As long as he took his medication, he should be fine. This eased Roxanne's mind.

While walking, she reminded the boys, "Did you hear the doctor? Tell me immediately if you're not feeling well." They nodded.

Roxanne was about to ask Benny how he felt when she sensed someone blocking their path. Even as they walked forward, the person didn't move. The boys immediately became alert.

Seeing this, Roxanne's heart sank. Looking up, she saw Lucian.

He stood impassively before them. Roxanne was momentarily taken aback before asking coldly, "Mr. Farwell, can I help you?"

Lucian frowned at her attitude but, because of the boys, didn't press the issue. "How's Benny?" he asked.

Roxanne frowned, scanning her surroundings for Aubree, but she wasn't there. Has Lucian abandoned Aubree to ask about my children? This thought frightened her. His six-year fiancรฉe and his recently discovered son were both ill; his choice should have been obvious. Yet, he'd chosen to check on Benny.

After witnessing Lucian's tender care for Aubree, Roxanne assumed he'd come only for Benny, not her. Perhaps he's found out about the boys' background?

Their conversation at the swimming pool replayed in her mind. Even though the boys had explained they called Lucian "daddy" out of respect, Roxanne's suspicions resurfaced. Instinctively, she shielded Archie and Benny from Lucian's gaze.

Lucian's gaze darkened at her protectiveness. Does she think I'll hurt her children? What kind of person does she think I am?

Both harbored conflicting thoughts.
