Chapter 330: You Know It

"Is your stomach aching badly? Do you want me to carry you?"

Roxanne, who had reached the staircase, knelt down, concerned, and looked into Benny's eyes.

Benny cracked a mischievous, gleeful smile. "It stopped hurting a long time ago, but I sensed you wanted to leave early."

From the moment Mommy saw Daddy and the other woman at the elevator, her mood changed drastically. Lucian's appearance in the corridor only intensified the tension; Roxanne's hostility was palpable. Both he and Archie disliked Lucian, providing the perfect excuse to get Roxanne away.

Upon hearing Benny's words, Roxanne, relieved and amused, playfully scratched his nose. "Next time, don't scare me by saying you have a stomachache. Just say you're tired."

Roxanne had been frightened by Benny. Had she not wanted to avoid Lucian, she would have taken Benny back inside for a closer examination. Fortunately, he was fine.

Just as the trio enjoyed a tender moment, footsteps sounded in the stairwell. The lightness of the steps indicated a woman.

Assuming it was a passerby, Roxanne and her sons stepped aside. To their surprise, Aubree emerged from the corner.

Roxanne's expression darkened instantly. One look told her Aubree's intentions were malicious, though Roxanne didn't know what she had planned. Was it Lucian's abrupt departure to see Benny? Roxanne's mind raced.

Aubree approached with an indifferent expression, even giving Benny a concerned glance before asking Roxanne, "Have you taken him to the doctor? What did the doctor say? Is he seriously ill?"

After a wary look at Aubree, Roxanne told her sons, "Go downstairs and wait for me."

They glared at Aubree, fearing she would hurt their mother. Roxanne knew she couldn't predict what would happen; she worried about protecting them if Aubree harmed them.

Seeing their hesitation, Roxanne instructed the more sensible Archie, "Archie, take Benny downstairs and watch over him."

Archie nodded, taking Benny's wrist and leading him down, leaving Roxanne and Aubree alone.

"What do you want?" Roxanne asked coldly.

Aubree responded innocently, "I expressed concern for Benny. Why the hostility? Do you think I'd hurt the children?"

Recalling Aubree's previous actions, Roxanne smirked. "You know better than anyone."

Aubree adopted a pitiful expression. "I only wanted to show concern. My arm is injured; what could I do? Lucian cares deeply for Benny; I'm just trying to help, and not for your sake. I don't want him to worry."

Roxanne saw through Aubree's attempt to prove her feelings for Lucian. A scornful look flashed across Roxanne's face before she nodded emotionlessly. "Thank you for your concern, Ms. Pearson. Benny's condition isn't serious; he'll be fine with medication. You should worry about your own injury."
