Chapter 335: Unable to Defend Herself
Sonya left the hospital late and, despite her anger, returned to the Farwell residence. She needed to demand an explanation from Roxanne and issue a stern warning, but she wanted to carefully consider her words first.
That night, Sonya was unable to sleep, her mind consumed by the matter.
The next morning, after a simple breakfast, Sonya had her driver take her to Roxanne's house. Roxanne was having breakfast with the children. Benny, feeling much better after his medication, was enjoying his meal. Seeing his restored energy, Roxanne sighed in relief. She was about to take them to the research institute when an unexpected guest arrived.
In the midst of breakfast, Roxanne answered the doorbell. Upon seeing the visitor, her heart sank. She turned to Lysa, instructing, "I'm going out for a while; please look after the children."
Lysa readily agreed. Unaware of the visitor's presence, the children bid Roxanne goodbye, assuming she was going to work. After smiling at them, Roxanne turned to face an emotionless Sonya. "Mrs. Farwell," Sonya said, "whatever it is, let's talk outside." Recognizing Sonya's hostility, Roxanne didn't want to upset the children.
After a contemptuous glance, Sonya returned to the car without speaking. Roxanne hesitated before following.
The car stopped at a nearby cafรฉ. Sonya remained silent, her expression solemn, but Roxanne felt the animosity radiating from her. Roxanne suspected it was about Lucian.
Once seated, Sonya spoke. "I'm sure you know why I'm here."
Roxanne acknowledged with pursed lips and an indifferent stare.
"Six years ago, you abruptly left the Farwell family, leaving behind a divorce agreement that ruined our reputation. While time has passed, I had no intention of holding you accountable. But you chose to return to the country and become involved with Lucian."
Sonya's voice was icy. "As I've said, you will never be part of the Farwell family. When you first became involved with Lucian, I warned you. You disrespected me by continuously pursuing him."
Roxanne frowned slightly. "My interactions with Mr. Farwell are solely for Essie's sake. Just as you don't want me involved with him, I don't want trouble. Why would I persistently pursue him?"
"Are you saying he's pursuing you?" Sonya mocked. "Even if true, you should know better, especially since he's engaged. His future wife will never be you; I'll never allow it!"
Sonya's words weren't surprising, so Roxanne remained unfazed. However, Sonya continued, "Previously, I overlooked your interactions with Lucian for Essie's sake. But your attempt to harm Aubree is unacceptable. She was injured saving me, and now, close to full recovery after a long process, you aggravated her injury. Roxanne, I won't allow someone as vicious as you near Lucian." Roxanne's expression changed.
Aggravate her injury? Is it because of last night? she thought. Even knowing Aubree was feigning injury, Roxanne was speechless.
Assuming Roxanne's silence was an admission, Sonya's glare intensified. "You'd better behave, or I'll send you back where you came from!"
