Chapter 337: Matters Between Us

Sonya overheard their conversation. Having long since decided that her son, Lucian, should marry Aubree, she had already warned Roxanne and wasn't concerned about her obedience. Therefore, she remained unconcerned by their interaction, elegantly sipping her coffee.

A contemptuous smile touched her lips as she heard Roxanne leave. "Disgraceful women are easily frightened," she mused. "And I won't allow such a woman to marry into the Farwell family." Turning to Lucian, she gestured for him to sit. "Have a seat."

Lucian, his eyes burning with suppressed anger, approached and sat down. The untouched cup of coffee before him had been ordered by Roxanne. Recalling her words to his mother, his frown deepened.

"Waiter," Sonya called, raising a hand, "another cup of what I'm having, please. And take this one away."

The waiter replaced Roxanne's coffee with a fresh one for Lucian.

"Why are you here?" Sonya asked, taking a leisurely sip of her coffee. "Who asked you to come?"

She suspected Roxanne had informed him of her presence, as he wouldn't otherwise know she was there. However, she hadn't seen Roxanne send him a message.

She hadn't finished speaking when Lucian's expression grew darker. Sonya frowned. "What's with the scowl, early in the morning? What did I do wrong?"

"Why did you see her?" Lucian asked, his voice deep.

Sonya, scanning her son, was visibly upset. "If you can visit the injured Aubree, why can't I speak with Roxanne? Besides, you heard her yourselfโ€”she's not interested in you. Why are you still angry with me on her account?"

Ignoring her, Lucian pressed, "What did you say to her?" He believed his mother's words had prompted Roxanne's cold response.

Sonya glowered. "I spoke the truth. She complained to you, so you'd come here and give me that snarky attitude. Nothing I say is ever good enough for a woman like that!"

Lucian refuted her quietly. "She didn't call me."

"Why should I believe you?" Sonya's disdain was evident.

Lucian's next words would devastate her. With an expressionless face, he revealed, "My men have been watching her. They informed me you were both here."

Sonya stared, disbelief etched on her face.

"What's so good about her? Don't forget what she did to the Farwell family and Essie!" Sonya slammed the table. "I don't care what you've planned, but you must end this right now. You're forbidden from contacting each other! You're marrying Aubree. What will people say?"

Lucian met her gaze firmly. "This is between her and me, and I'll resolve it myself. Stop interfering."
