Sonya's heart sank as she looked at Lucian's expression. She knew her son too well: the calmer and more collected he appeared, the more determined he was. This wasn't the first time Lucian had warned her against interfering in his relationship with Roxanne.

Sonya didn't understand Roxanne's hold on her son. "I can't believe my son would give me attitude because of that woman!" she thought.

Sonya frowned. After a moment, she gritted her teeth and demanded, "What do you take Aubree for? She's waited for you for so long, and now you want to get rid of her? What has she done wrong? Do you think Roxanne is better? Have you forgotten how that heartless woman dumped Essie? Aubree raised Essie with you! She took excellent care of Essie and respected the elders. What more could you ask for?"

Lucian's eyes turned cold. "Are you sure everything she did was perfect?"

Sonya froze, momentarily doubting herself. But recalling Aubree's years of care for the family, she steadied herself and nodded.

"Have you ever wondered why Essie refuses to accept Aubree, even after all these years, for no apparent reason?" Lucian asked, his voice deep.

Sonya was speechless. She patiently defended Aubree, explaining, "Aubree said she likes children but lacked experience. Of course, she'll make mistakes. But given time, their relationship will improve."

Glaring at Lucian, she exclaimed, "How many times have I told you to let Essie spend more time with Aubree? Yet you keep Essie by your side!"

Lucian smirked. He knew arguing was pointless. No matter what he said, she would blame him and defend Aubree. "So, you're saying I have no choice but to marry Aubree?"

Sonya nodded vehemently. "You can't let her down. She's waited years."

"What if I refuse?" Lucian asked.

Sonya frowned at his response. "Besides Aubree, who else could you marry? Roxanne? Listen carefully: I won't allow her into the family. Stop dreaming! Aubree was severely injured saving me. You have to marry her—she's our benefactor!"

Fury consumed Sonya. She gripped her coffee cup tightly, suppressing her anger.

Lucian said, "I'm indebted to the Pearson family, but the Farwell Group has done everything to repay their kindness. Aubree's sacrifices are between you two. I'll ensure she receives excellent care and the best medical attention to minimize any scarring, but that's all I can do."
