Chapter 355: Not Good for Her Mental Condition
Aubree called Sonya after some consideration. Sonya answered quickly. "Is something wrong, Aubree?"
"Mrs. Farwell, can you please come over? My arm hurts terribly, and I'm scared," Aubree said, her voice full of unease.
"Just a moment. I'll be right over," Sonya promised, immediately getting ready and leaving.
Only after starting her car did Sonya wonder why Aubree hadn't called Lucian. "What about Lucian? Isn't he with you?" she asked curiously. [Remove the promotional text here]
"I'm not sure where he is," Aubree replied sadly. "Maybe he's working overtime. I didn't want to disturb him. My parents weren't answering, so I had no choice but to call you."
Sonya comforted her. "It's okay. You were hurt because of me, so taking care of you is the least I can do. Just wait for me at the hospital. I'll be there soon."
After Aubree agreed, Sonya hung up and called Lucian, her face hardening. She found it unbelievable that he'd still be working so late.
Lucian had just tucked Estella in after talking with her. As he left her room, Sonya called.
"Where are you? You haven't finished work yet?" Sonya asked suspiciously.
Lucian, understanding his mother's call, rubbed his temple. "I have. Essie wasn't feeling well, so I came home early to care for her."
Sonya's tone softened. "How is she now?"
"Better than this afternoon. I just put her to bed," Lucian replied.
"She seemed fine earlier. What happened?" Sonya pressed.
Lucian hesitated, then said, "She's probably just having a relapse." He added, "Dr. Lambert said Essie needs me right now, so I may not be able to go to the hospital. If necessary, I can hire a top-grade caregiver for Aubree."
Sonya frowned. "Then take Essie to the hospital so she and Aubree can bond. Aubree's better at caring for children; women are generally more thoughtful and caring."
"There's no need for them to bond. Besides, the hospital isn't good for Essie's mental condition," Lucian protested coldly, remembering his earlier refusal to marry Aubree. He hadn't expected his mother to be so persistent.
Rubbing his temples, he added, before Sonya could respond, "Aubree's almost fully recovered. I'll send a caregiver tomorrow, and if you're still worried, you can visit. I won't stop you."
Displeased with Lucian's tone, Sonya was about to reprimand him when he said, "Essie's awake. I need to check on her. If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
He ended the call without waiting for her reply, leaving Sonya to her thoughts.
