Chapter 377: Why the Sudden Question?

When Roxanne arrived home that evening, Lysa had already brought Archie and Benny home and prepared dinner. Noticing Roxanne from afar, the children greeted her, "Mommy, you must be tired!" They tilted their heads, noticing her weary appearance and exchanged glances. "Mommy must have had a hard day at work," they seemed to think.

Roxanne was exhausted, but seeing her sons' concern, she rallied. Stroking their heads, she smiled. "Thank you, my darlings." Immediately, Archie and Benny fetched her slippers and placed them at her feet. Roxanne grinned. When she took off her coat, they eagerly grabbed it and attempted to hang it on the rack, their small stature making the task challenging. Roxanne giggled patiently as they struggled.

Once the coat was hung, she led them to the dining table. "Bon appรฉtit, Mommy!" they chirped, even sharing their food with her. Roxanne's smile widened; her exhaustion vanished. "Mommy, you must be tired, right?" Benny leaned in to check her expression. "Not at all," Roxanne reassured him with a smile, "especially seeing your faces." The boys eyed her suspiciously. "Come, try some," she offered, giving them some of her food.

Just as she thought they were settling into their meal, Benny asked, "Mommy, when are we traveling out of the country again?" Archie glanced at Roxanne. She froze momentarily. "I still have work to do at the research institute," she explained. "We can travel once I've completed all my tasks."

"Does that mean we won't be traveling anytime soon?" Benny pressed.

Roxanne nodded. "How much longer do we have to wait?" Benny persisted, his persistence making Roxanne frown. Their eyes met, and she saw the anticipation in his gaze. A pang of guilt struck her. The boys loved living in Chanaea, yet she had uprooted them repeatedly. Knowing Sonya was pressuring her, Roxanne steeled herself. When she remained silent, the boys urged, "Mommy!" She forced a smile.

"I don't have an answer yet. Why do you ask?"

Archie and Benny exchanged glances, their disappointment evident. Roxanne, unsure of their thoughts, asked, "What's wrong?"

"We saw Essie at kindergarten," Benny explained softly. "She came to play, but she wasn't happy." He looked pleadingly at Roxanne. "Mommy, can we stay a little longer?"

Roxanne felt a sharp pang of sympathy for Estella. After a pause, she shook her head. "We have to leave after I finish my work here. Don't you miss Professor Lambert?"

Disappointed, Archie and Benny lowered their heads.
