Ignoring their responses, Roxanne sat down in front of Jonathan.
When Jonathan saw Lucian still standing, he said quickly, "Lucian, since Dr. Jarvis doesn't mind, join us. Dr. Jarvis's research institute has recently encountered some problems. You may be able to help!"
Lucian frowned before sitting down. He decided to stay because Roxanne hadn't run away upon seeing him.
However, Roxanne ignored Lucian after inviting him. When the dishes arrived, she raised her glass, saying, "Thank you for helping me with the herb suppliers, Mr. Queen."
Jonathan didn't make a fuss. Clinking glasses with her, he replied, "You're welcome, Dr. Jarvis. I'm not the only one who helped with this issue."
Roxanne frowned, confused.
Jonathan was about to elaborate when someone glared at him. Sensing Lucian's stare, Jonathan smoothly changed the subject. "If your research institute weren't so great, those herb suppliers wouldn't bother with me. So, you have yourself to thank. Your abilities are outstanding."
Roxanne smiled. "Have the herb suppliers reached a decision? If necessary, I can speak with them personally." After all, they were working with her institute as a favor to Jonathan, and she was best positioned to explain the situation.
Jonathan shook his head. "No need. A few have already agreed to cooperate. However, you'll still need to discuss the business proposal with them in detail."
The deal was sealed; she only needed to discuss the proposal with the suppliers.
Roxanne sighed with relief. The herb supplier issue had been bothering her for a long time. She could finally relax.
With the institute's problem solved, she could relocate overseas with Archie and Benny without worry. No one would bother her again.
Thinking this, Roxanne subconsciously looked at Lucian. His unfathomable gaze startled her.
Lucian hadn't started eating; he'd been listening to their conversation. He wanted to see Roxanne's reaction to the business discussion. He noticed her gradual relaxation and his eyes dimmed. He hadn't realized she'd been under so much pressure.
When Roxanne looked at him, he didn't look away in time. Their gazes met for a long moment before Roxanne broke the contact, clenching her fists. Her heart skipped a beat at his look.
The thought of going abroad made her glance at Lucian again. Why was he looking at me? she wondered.
When Roxanne looked away, Lucian did too, but unhappily.
