When Roxanne saw Archie standing close to Lucian, she quickly called, "Let's go inside, Archie."
The little boy nodded obediently, withdrew his gaze from Lucian, and followed Roxanne into the house.
Madilyn carefully held her best friend. "Is it true you felt nauseous? I don't remember you ever having motion sickness."
The two women had known each other for years, but this was the first time Madilyn had heard Roxanne mention motion sicknessโand such a severe case.
Roxanne, afraid of frightening her children, nodded lightly and said, "I wasn't feeling well earlier."
Madilyn dropped the subject and helped her into the mansion.
Lucian remained at the gate, his emotions unreadable.
Lysa, cooking dinner, saw Roxanne enter, looking weak. Noticing Lucian still on the porch, she said, "Ms. Jarvis, Mr. Farwell is still outside."
Roxanne frowned and replied curtly, "Please shut the door." She had no intention of interacting with him.
Lysa, unaware of their history, had always believed they were on good terms, as Lucian seemed caring toward Roxanne. She'd even imagined they might be together. Seeing Roxanne's cold treatment, Lysa assumed they'd had a falling out. She felt bad for Lucian as she closed the gate.
Lucian, with the doors closing behind him, returned to his car and instructed Cayden to drive him back to the Farwell residence. Essie should be home by now.
Inside, Lysa helped Madilyn escort Roxanne to her bedroom. Archie and Benny sweetly offered her hot water, nestled near her bed, and stared intently. Roxanne smiled reassuringly. "I'm alright. Just need some rest. You two go play, okay?"
The boys exchanged a worried glance.
Madilyn interjected, "Leave her to me," and signaled Lysa to take the children outside.
Reluctantly, Archie and Benny left.
The door closed, and Madilyn's face turned serious. "Tell me everything. What happened? You were fine at the banquet yesterday. How are you so sick today? Did you see Lucian?"
Roxanne, exasperated, replied, "It's a coincidence. A minor accident on the flight startled me. Don't tell the boys; I don't want them to worry."
Madilyn studied her, suspicion giving way to sympathy. "Okay, I understand. It's just you and Lucianโฆ"
Madilyn knew their history. Six years ago, Roxanne had fled Lucian's hostility. Now, he was acting differentlyโconstantly appearing, his attitude remarkably improved. Madilyn couldn't comprehend the change and prayed history wouldn't repeat itself.
