Although Roxanne had repeatedly said she felt fine, Madilyn remained uneasy and thoroughly examined her. She concluded Roxanne had mild post-traumatic stress and would recover with sufficient rest.
After a short rest, Roxanne went downstairs, where Lysa was serving dinner. Lysa was about to check on Roxanne when she saw her already up. "How are you feeling? Can you eat this, or should I make you some soup?" Lysa asked, concerned.
Roxanne, looking less pale, shook her head. "Don't trouble yourself. I don't have much of an appetite; I can eat whatever's prepared." She took her seat at the table.
Archie and Benny, hearing her voice, rushed from the living room to surround her. Roxanne ruffled their hair. "Don't worry, I'm fine after a good nap."
The boys remained downcast and concerned. Having been with Roxanne since they were young, they knew she didn't suffer from motion sickness, leaving them wondering what happened on the flight home.
Seeing their unhappiness, Roxanne shot Madilyn a helpless glance for help. Unable to tell her sons the truth and lacking a better excuse, she was in a dilemma.
Sensing her plea, Madilyn looked at the boys and cleared her throat. "I've checked your mommy's condition. There's nothing serious; she just needs rest. Would I lie to you?"
Archie and Benny vigorously shook their heads.
Roxanne beamed at her sons' concern. "I'll drive you both to kindergarten tomorrow," she said.
Archie and Benny froze, then their eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"
Roxanne had been avoiding Estella, not sending the boys to kindergarten since telling her they were moving overseas. While the boys were okay seeing Roxanne after school, they felt awful seeing Estella's disappointment. Roxanne's offer made them happy for Estella.
"Mommy's taking us to kindergarten tomorrow! She'll be better then. Yay!"
Seeing their excitement, Roxanne nodded. "I'll grow a long nose like Pinocchio if I lie."
The boys grinned and began eating.
Madilyn stayed after dinner. After putting the children to bed, she ensured Roxanne was comfortable before leaving. "Call if you still feel unwell tomorrow. I'll take the boys to kindergarten," Madilyn said.
Roxanne smiled. "Okay. Sorry for troubling you these past two days."
Madilyn gave her a reproving look. "Am I not their godmother? It's my responsibility. You get some rest and get well soon."
Roxanne smiled and watched her leave.
