Once they decided on their afternoon itinerary, Lucian arranged for the yacht's preparation before taking Roxanne and the children out. The crew awaited them at the beach.
"Mr. Farwell," the crew greeted, "the yacht and crew are ready. This is our largest and finest yacht, with two diving instructors. The water here is very safe; you might enjoy trying a dive."
Lucian acknowledged with a cool nod. Roxanne, however, was slightly puzzled by the crew's deference to Lucian; the person introducing them had recognized Lucian instantly. Given the Farwells' standing in Horington and Lucian's prior visits to the resort, she soon felt more at ease.
They boarded the yacht. Roxanne worried about the children's restlessness, but Lucian immediately began buckling their seatbelts. The children were thus securely fastened and remarkably quiet, watched over by two crew members ready to intervene if necessary. Roxanne relaxed, appreciating Lucian's thoroughness.
The captain greeted them, "The weather's perfect for a sea trip today." Roxanne, receiving no response from Lucian, politely acknowledged the captain. Encouraged by her response, the crew enthusiastically described available activities.
Before reaching the dolphin-watching area, the children were captivated by the crew's briefing, their faces alight with excitement. Roxanne occasionally responded.
"Mr. Farwell mentioned the dolphin sighting," the crew continued, "but diving is actually more exciting here. The water's well-protected, the underwater views are beautiful—you should try it!"
Roxanne's interest piqued. She longed to travel and experience new things, but childcare and her workload had prevented it. This opportunity to explore the underwater world was too good to miss. However, leaving the children with Lucian, still recovering from his injury, gave her pause.
Lucian, as if reading her mind, said, "If you want to try, go ahead."
It took Roxanne a moment to register his words. The children chimed in, "We'll be good! Mommy, do whatever you want!" Estella produced a waterproof camera, presenting it solemnly. "Ms. Jarvis, please take photos and show me."
Warmed by their encouragement, Roxanne nodded. "Thank you, darlings. Then," she glanced at Lucian, "I'll leave the children in your care, Mr. Farwell. I want to try diving."
Lucian agreed noncommittally.
