Chapter 580

Lucian watched the woman on the couch. Though displeased with her words, he said nothing more. Bidding them a simple goodbye, he left with Estella.

Roxanne, injured, remained seated. Only when the mansion door closed did she exhale, still dazed from recent events. The past two days felt dreamlike. After six years apart, she was again living with Lucian, even confessing her long-held feelings. His fluctuating attitude toward her was perplexing; at times, it seemed he liked her. Snapping back to reality, she laughed at her own thoughts.

"Mommy," Archie tugged at her clothes, his worried expression mirroring her pallor. "Are you tired? We'll help you to your room."

Roxanne nodded. "Actually, I am quite tired." Two days of tension with Lucian, culminating in her injury, had left her exhausted. With Lucian gone, she no longer needed to maintain a faรงade.

Lysa, standing nearby, approached. "I'll help you upstairs," she offered, extending a hand.

Roxanne smiled gratefully, pushing herself up from the couch. Lucian had carried her everywhere after her injury; only now, attempting to walk unaided, did she realize how difficult it was. Even with Lysa's support, the pain in her foot made walking arduous. Reaching the stairs, she laughed helplessly. "I'll just stay downstairs for now."

Lysa led her to a downstairs guest room, her heart aching for Roxanne. She marveled at Roxanne's ability to care for two children alone, imagining the struggles of illness and motherhood.

Archie and Benny followed. Roxanne, settling onto the bed, softly instructed, "It's late. You two should go to bed."

The boys shook their heads. "We want to be with you, Mommy!" They wanted to help if she needed water during the night.

"There's no need," Roxanne chuckled.

Lysa interjected, "I'll stay here tonight and care for Ms. Jarvis. You two just rest."

After considerable hesitation, the boys nodded. Lysa took them upstairs, then returned to help Roxanne wash up, bringing a mattress beside the bed. After turning off the lights, Lysa asked, "What's going on between you and Mr. Farwell, Ms. Jarvis? He seems to care for you deeply."

Roxanne, already unsettled, felt her drowsiness vanish. She forced a smile. "We're only acquaintances. Estella's friendship with Archie and Benny is purely coincidental."

Though suspicious, Lysa wisely refrained from further questioning. Silence descended. Roxanne stared at the ceiling, replaying the misunderstandings surrounding her and Lucian. Even Lysa was suspicious.

It seems I must maintain a distance from him.
