Chapter 579
The group left the hotel late at night and returned to the city. Their journey home differed from their arrival. Archie sat in the front passenger seat, allowing Roxanne to sit comfortably in the back with Estella and Benny. The children continually gazed at her injured foot, leaving Roxanne unsure whether to cry.
They arrived at the mansion entrance. Supporting herself on the car seat, Roxanne carefully attempted to exit. As she reached the door, strong hands encircled her waist, lifting her. Roxanne was momentarily stunned. However, realizing the children were accustomed to this since her injury, she didn't refuse Lucian's help, allowing him to carry her inside.
Lysa met them at the entrance. Seeing Roxanne in Lucian's arms, she exclaimed in surprise, "What's happening? Are you sick, Ms. Jarvis?"
The children quickly explained, "Mommy hurt her foot."
Lysa's worry was evident as she examined Roxanne's foot, noting a dangling shoe and the gauze wrapping. With concern etched on her face, she helped Lucian settle Roxanne on the couch. "How did you injure yourself so badly?" she asked.
Roxanne offered a reassuring smile. "I scraped my foot on a seashell. It's nothing serious; it'll heal with a couple of days' rest."
Lysa's worry remained. "It's fortunate you were with Ms. Jarvis, Mr. Farwell. Thank you for bringing her home so late," she thanked Lucian.
Lucian nodded. "Please take good care of her for the next two days. Keep her off her feet and the wound dry."
Lysa readily agreed.
A strange feeling arose in Roxanne's heart as she observed Lucian acting as the head of the household. "It's late. You should take Estella home, Mr. Farwell. I'll thank you properly later," she said.
Her words elicited a grim expression from Lucian. Despite their recent interaction, Roxanne remained distant. He had gone to great lengths for her, yet she continued to push him away.
Estella looked down, tugging on Roxanne's shirt. "Ms. Jarvis, I want to stay with you," she pleaded, her worry palpable.
Roxanne's heart softened, but she remained firm. "Be good, Essie. It's late. Go home with Daddy."
"But you're hurtโฆ" Estella's eyes welled with tears. Roxanne's heart ached. She knew the girl was worried, but felt she needed to maintain distance from both Lucian and Estella.
Before Roxanne could respond, Estella began to cry.
"If you're worried, you can visit tomorrow, Essie." After a pause, Roxanne relented.
Estella looked at her doubtfully. "Really? I can come?" she sobbed.
A wave of sorrow washed over Roxanne as she patted Estella's head. "Yes," she said firmly.
Hearing Roxanne's promise, Estella nodded, taking Lucian's hand.
