Chapter 593
Hesitation filled Roxanne's eyes as she stared at Lucian. His eyebrows furrowed as he extended his hand. "I'll help you walk."
She glanced at the children in the dining room, their wide eyes fixed on them. Remembering his earlier phone call, she declined. "You should keep the children company first, Mr. Farwell. I can ask Lysa for help."
Displeasure flickered across Lucian's face. His tone grew colder. "Do you find it inconvenient for me to assist you, Ms. Jarvis? I'm thinking the same, so I'll simply carry you."
He immediately leaned toward her. Taken aback by his bluntness, she quickly offered her hand. "Thank you for your help then, Mr. Farwell."
Lucian paused, his hesitation making her anxious. After a moment, he stood and took her arm.
Borrowing his strength, she rose from the couch. Instantly, he pulled her into his embrace.
Roxanne froze, acutely aware of their intimacy. She wanted to pull away but lacked the strength. Furthermore, his grip was firm, leaving no room for struggle.
He escorted her to the dining table, the children watching silently.
Roxanne smiled at them. "See? I'm doing fine."
The children, however, noticed her limp. The sight, coupled with their earlier knowledge of her injury, saddened them. Yet, Roxanne's evident desire to reassure them prevented further questions. They quietly served her food.
She thanked them with a smile.
"Ms. Jarvis," Estella spoke suddenly. Roxanne turned, confused. "Can you rest properly and get better soon?" The girl's gaze was serious. She'd heard about Roxanne's reopened wound and wanted her to heal.
Roxanne was stunned. Then, a mixture of laughter and tears welled up. She nodded. "I know, Essie. Don't worry, I'll heed your advice."
Estella nodded seriously, like a miniature adult.
The boys then turned to Lucian. "Thank you for applying Mommy's medicine, Mr. Farwell."
They served Lucian food. Surprised by their gratitude, he raised an eyebrow and offered a faint smile. "You two must take good care of your mother and try to prevent her from walking too much."
The children nodded.
They enjoyed a pleasant meal together.
After dinner, Lucian didn't pressure Roxanne further and left with Estella.
"Mommy," the boys said once they were gone, studying her closely.
Roxanne looked at them, puzzled. "What is it?"
"Can Essie and Mr. Farwell visit again?" Their voices were soft.
They might not have fully accepted their father's abandonment, but two days of interaction had shown them the benefits of his presence. He clearly knew how to care for their mother. Roxanne felt a strange emotion rise in her chest at their unexpected request. "Do you boys... like Mr. Farwell?"
