Chapter 592

Roxanneโ€™s heart ached at the sight. Patting Estellaโ€™s head, she said, โ€œI accidentally reopened my wound earlier, but Iโ€™m fine now.โ€

Estellaโ€™s eyes were already reddening. โ€œDoes it hurt?โ€ Roxanneโ€™s heart softened. โ€œNot at all,โ€ she replied. โ€œI donโ€™t feel a thing.โ€ She glanced at Lucian and shifted the conversation. โ€œBesides, your daddy was very careful bandaging it. You can ask him if my injury is serious.โ€

Estella immediately turned to her father. Lucian raised an eyebrow at Roxanneโ€™s mention of him, but nodded at the child. โ€œSheโ€™ll recover quickly with enough rest.โ€

The girl believed him implicitly, sniffing and nodding obediently.

Roxanne had initially planned to send Estella home after assuring her she was fine. However, Estellaโ€™s distress made it impossible to dismiss her.

Roxanneโ€™s injury kept the boys from their usual play. They sat quietly beside her until Lysa called, โ€œDinnerโ€™s ready! Come and eat!โ€

Roxanne subconsciously glanced at Lucian. She was about to ask him to leave, but then her sons piped up, โ€œMommy, can Essie eat with us?โ€ Theyโ€™d seen the girlโ€™s happiness on the way back and hoped she could spend more time with their mother.

Roxanneโ€™s eyebrows furrowed. Sheโ€™d just seen Aubree calling Lucian. Letting him and Estella stay for dinner might seem deliberate, especially after his earlier words.

She intended to refuse, but Estella grabbed her sleeve. Her heart wavered as she looked at the girlโ€™s pitifully red, aggrieved eyes. She couldn't refuse.

Seeing Roxanne hesitate, Estella turned to her father with flushed cheeks. โ€œDaddyโ€ฆโ€

Lucian glanced at Roxanne, then at his daughter. โ€œMs. Jarvis has already agreed. You should thank her.โ€

Doubt lingered in Estellaโ€™s heart; she needed confirmation from Roxanne. Roxanne, unable to speak the words, simply patted the childโ€™s head in silent assent. Then, turning to her sons, she said, โ€œTake her to the dining room.โ€

The boys understood. They nodded obediently and guided Estella. โ€œCome with us, Essie!โ€

Only then did Estella truly believe it. Still, worried about Roxanneโ€™s leg, she insisted on helping her walk.

Sensing the girlโ€™s intentions, Roxanne smiled warmly. She was about to ask Lysa for help when Lucian appeared beside her.

โ€œEssie, go with Archie and Benny. Iโ€™ll take Ms. Jarvis to the dining room,โ€ Lucian said. Estella trusted her father and followed the boys, leaving the adults alone.
