Chapter 664: Matching Dresses
Roxanne hadn't bought the children new clothes since returning home. Madilyn had purchased most of their existing wardrobe. Lucian, even less experienced with children's clothing, felt overwhelmed by the choices and simply let the children choose.
"Ms. Jarvis!" Estella tugged Roxanne's sleeve. Roxanne followed Estella's gaze to a simply decorated store showcasing matching adult and children's clothing. Given the high-end mall's location, many of the outfits were formal.
It was Estella's first time seeing such matching clothes. She was thrilled at the prospect of matching dresses with Roxanne, who felt hesitant. Roxanne understood Estella's desire but worried that matching outfits would cause misunderstandings about their relationship, especially given her already significant concession in letting Estella choose her clothes.
"You're a good girl, Essie. How about we look at other stores?" Roxanne attempted to redirect Estella's attention.
However, Estella's hopeful, pleading gaze remained fixed on the store.
Archie and Benny, too, had never seen such clothes. They glanced at Lucian expectantly but lacked the courage to speak.
Seeing the children's persistence, Roxanne looked to Lucian for help, only to find him avoiding her gazeโclearly expecting her to handle the situation. Roxanne's headache intensified.
Before she could respond, Estella pulled her into the shop. Resigned, Roxanne followed, hoping for no unreasonable requests.
"Welcome!" The enthusiastic employee had been observing them. She considered them the most attractive family she'd encountered and envisioned a photograph of them boosting store sales. This fueled her increasingly welcoming demeanor.
"You kids are so adorable! What kind of clothes do you like? I can help you try them on!" she offered, smiling at the children.
Overwhelmed by the choices, the children, experiencing the thrill of self-selection for the first time, were dazzled. Roxanne, initially intending to choose for them, found the matching-outfit-only policy overwhelming and relinquished control.
Suddenly, Estella tugged her sleeve again. Roxanne followed her gaze, her nerves tightening.
Two dresses stood before them: a simple fishtail dress subtly adorned with small diamonds on the straps and hem, and a charming, pearl-embellished white princess dress in a smaller size. Though different, their style clearly indicated a matching set.
Estella looked from the dresses to Roxanne, her anticipation palpable.
