Chapter 674: Win Over His Heart
Roxanne glanced instinctively at the man walking ahead before lowering her gaze to the flowers in her arms. She hesitated, unsure whether to return them. Before she could speak, however, her three children approached. Their faces lit up at the sight of the flowers.
โMommy, where did you get those? Theyโre pretty, and they match you perfectly!โ Benny exclaimed, despite knowing their source.
A wave of embarrassment washed over Roxanne. Just as she was about to give the flowers to Estella, she remembered the man still holding her wrist. Her children noticed too. Roxanne flushed, but managed a calm smile as she subtly tried to free herself. He only tightened his grip.
Frowning, she turned to protest. Lucian met her gaze. "Ms. Jarvis," he said, "you're holding flowers, and I'm afraid you'll get soaked again if you can't see the road properly. Don't worry, I'll let go once we're past the fountain."
It was a subtle declaration. Roxanne's blush deepened, spreading to her ears. With the children present, she could only allow him to continue, reassuring herself he was only holding her wrist. Fortunately, the children didn't question the flowers again.
"Are we going home now?" Archie asked, his usual sensible self.
Roxanne nodded. Before she could respond, Lucian said, "It's getting late, and your mommy's wet. She might catch a cold if it gets colder."
Worried expressions appeared on the children's faces. "Let's hurry home then!"
Lucian nodded, gesturing for them to follow as he turned and walked away. Roxanne, uneasy, kept glancing back to check on them, only relaxing when she saw them close behind.
Meanwhile, Hasso trailed Frieda through the crowd, a bitter smile on his face. Despite seeing her darkening expression, he remained silent. They stood outside the hall, waiting, without even having dinner.
It was a long wait before Roxanne and the others emerged. Hasso initially believed their departure was imminent, but the others began playing in the square. To him, they seemed happy. Frieda's frown, however, deepened.
She had anticipated Roxanne and Estella in matching outfits as the most outrageous sight. But Lucian's treatment of Roxanneโas a girlfriendโfar surpassed her expectations. Their intimacy was far greater than sheโd imagined. Indeed, she suspected Roxanne would win Lucian's heart unless Aubree acted swiftly.
The thought of future deference to Roxanne due to Lucian infuriated her. However, lacking any immediate recourse, she photographed everything and angrily sent the pictures to Aubree, refusing to believe Aubree would remain indifferent.
