Chapter 675: Clear Explanation

Roxanne was unaware that Frieda had been observing them all day. After entering the car, Roxanne and the children settled into their seats. As Roxanne hugged the flowers Lucian had given her, a strange feeling settled over her. These flowers were far simpler than the roses he used to send, yet they touched her more deeply.

The children, clearly tired, fell silent shortly after getting in the car. Lucian, glancing in the rearview mirror, saw them slumped asleep in their car seats. The woman beside him seemed lost in thought, staring out the window. He wondered what preoccupied her.

He slowed the car, wanting them to sleep undisturbed. Roxanne sensed the deceleration and, in that moment, felt a sense of contentment. The incident six years ago was behind them; her children were thriving, and their curiosity about their father grew stronger.

Previously, Roxanne had feared Lucian discovering the children's origins and taking them from her. However, his actions were increasingly reassuring. Madilyn's advice echoed in her mind, forcing her to confront her wavering resolve.

The journey was quiet. Eventually, the car stopped outside Roxanne's house. Lucian turned to Roxanne, assuming she was asleep. To his surprise, she was awake, though seemingly lost in thought, oblivious to their arrival.

His eyes darkened. He couldn't resist asking, "What are you thinking about?"

Roxanne had been daydreaming since entering the car, and Lucian was curious about the subject of her prolonged contemplation. His voice startled her; she instinctively replied, "Nothing."

Lucian heard the hesitation in her voice. His gaze intensified. "You were thinking about it the entire way back," he stated, his tone somber.

Only then did Roxanne realize the car had stopped. Lucian's intense gaze felt like it pierced her soul. "Am I related to what you're thinking about?" he guessed, studying her expression.

Roxanne's face paled; panic flashed in her eyes. Lucian softened his expression, a thrill coursing through him. He didn't know her thoughts, but at least they concerned him. His efforts hadn't been in vain.

Concealing his emotions, Lucian continued, "Ms. Jarvis, have you considered whether or not I'm serious about courting you?"

Roxanne instinctively glanced at the sleeping children, fearing they might overhear and misunderstand.

"Don't worry. They're sound asleep," Lucian reassured her, sensing her apprehension. The children remained undisturbed.

Roxanne sighed in relief, then looked at him. After composing herself, she said with feigned calmness, "Before I answer your question, I think you should tell me about Ms. Pearson."
