Chapter 680
At the Pearson residence, a sulking Aubree locked herself in her room. She was furious about the photos Frieda had sent that afternoon; her anger completely suppressed her appetite for dinner. She hadn't expected more photos from Frieda, especially so close to bedtime. The pictures depicted a manโthe man Aubree had desperately tried to meetโperforming various acts of service for Roxanne: putting his jacket on her, buying her flowers, holding her wrist. The two looked like a couple deeply in love.
Rage consumed Aubree as she stared at the photos. They were flagrantly disregarding her position as Lucian's fiancรฉe. If this became public, she would be not only humiliated but also robbed of her dream of becoming Mrs. Farwell. A vicious expression twisted Aubree's face at the thought. "That bitch! Why did she even come back?" she hissed, leaping from her bed and throwing objects on her table to the floor.
Downstairs, Gina worried about her daughter. Earlier, noticing Aubree's absence at dinner, she had knocked on her door without receiving a response. Now, hearing the commotion from upstairs, she hurried to check on Aubree. "Aubree, what's wrong? What's upsetting you?" Gina frantically tapped on the door.
This time, Aubree opened it immediately. Gina, seeing Aubree's grim expression, was at a loss. "What's wrong? Tell me."
Without a word, Aubree re-entered her room and sat on the bed. Gina followed. As she approached, she saw Aubree's unlocked phone displaying several photosโthe apparent cause of Aubree's outburst. Gina glanced at Aubree before carefully picking up the phone to examine the photos. Seeing Lucian and Roxanne together, their closeness evident in each picture, her own face fell.
"What's going on? How did Lucian end up with this woman again?"
Aubree, irritated, punched the bed silently. Gina looked at her daughter's tear-streaked face. Clearly, Aubree was furious at the pair in the photos.
"Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?" Gina was heartbroken and enraged.
Aubree finally spoke. "What's the point? I've tried everything, and I still couldn't stop them!" The futility of her past efforts only intensified her distress.
Gina, exasperated by her daughter's upset, retorted, "That woman is shameless! She knows Lucian is engaged, yet she clings to him. They're divorced! She left him so resolutely. What is she trying to do now?"
Aubree frowned, saying glumly, "What's the point of talking about it now? If this continues, that bitch will become his wife again! Then I'll be a nobody, a laughingstock!"
This thought further fueled Aubree's fury, prompting a fresh wave of frustrated tears.
Distressed, Gina exclaimed, "No! We can't let her remarry him. All our efforts over the years will be wasted. We have to do something!"
