Chapter 687
Aubree watched the elevator descend to the ground floor. Once it stopped, she dusted herself off and returned to her room. Lost in thought, she didn't realize how long she'd been sitting until her phone rang, jolting her from her reverie.
A glance at the caller ID revealed it was her mother. Aubree immediately understood the reason for the call, but she let the phone continue to ring. She watched helplessly as the screen flashed before falling silent. Shortly after, it rang again. This continued until, finally, annoyance spurred her to answer.
โAubree, why didnโt you answer? Whatโs happened? Are you not at his place yet?โ Ginaโs concerned voice filled her ear.
A mocking smile touched Aubree's lips. Her mother still believed she was at the Farwell residence.
When Aubree remained silent, Gina pressed, โAubree? Are you there? Why arenโt you saying anything?โ
โIโm at a hotel,โ Aubree replied flatly.
Heavy silence followed. Aubree continued, โLucian isnโt here. He booked me a presidential suite, told me to rest, and then left.โ
Gina was shocked Lucian hadn't taken Aubree home. Noticing Aubree's despondency, she attempted to comfort her. โDonโt worry. He took you away; he booked the room, didn't he? I think he'll visit you often.โ
Aubree let out a harsh, sarcastic laugh. โBelieve me, he wonโt. He said weโll never be together. I bet heโs with that Jarvis woman right now!โ
The thought of Roxanne darkened Aubree's expression further. It's that woman's fault! If she hadn't returned, I'd be Mrs. Farwell by now!
Gina's carefully laid plans had spectacularly backfired. Hearing Aubree's words, her face fell. โDonโt worryโฆโ she began, unable to find the right words. If Lucian truly meant what he said, her comfort would be meaningless.
After a moment, Gina hastily added, โEven if Lucian said all that, you still have Sonya! Iโm sure sheโll help you!โ
The mention of Sonya filled Aubree with a flicker of hope. โMrs. Farwell has no control over Lucianโs thoughts, but sheโs always been kind to me. She even drove Roxanne away. Now, I need her favor. Getting rid of that woman was the best possible outcome. Even if Lucian and Roxanne are together, heโll have no choice then!โ
Aubree's tone turned icy. โYouโre right! No matter what, Lucian can only marry me! That woman has caused too much damage. I will have my revenge!โ
Gina nodded eagerly. โDonโt worry, Aubree. Iโll help you! Youโve waited for Lucian for so long! Who else is he going to marry?โ
The two discussed the situation at length. Finally, Gina persuaded Aubree to rest.
After hanging up, Gina was consumed by guilt and regret. If I'd known he was going to put her in a hotel, I wouldn't have encouraged this!
