Chapter 691: Who Is She With?

Lucian's gaze darkened slightly at Archie's reply. Treating a child? Roxanne could be with either Jack or Larry. Clutching at a sliver of hope, he asked Archie and Benny, "Do you remember what the man looked like?"

The boys exchanged glances. Benny wisely remained silent, letting Archie answer. The elder twin replied somberly, "The man looked very handsome and seemed to be on good terms with Mommy."

Archie hoped this would remind Lucian of his mother's many admirers and spur him to greater courtship efforts. Sadly, his plan backfired; he didn't know Lucian and Roxanne's relationship had grown strained because of Larry and Jack. Archie's reply only fueled Lucian's suspicions.

He considered asking for more details but stopped, noticing their blank expressions. Brows still furrowed, Lucian asked, "How will you get to school later? Need a lift?"

The boys shook their heads. "Mommy already told the school we're not coming today."

Lucian looked at Estella. The young girl, upset about Roxanne leaving with another man, was giving her father the cold shoulder.

"Daddy took his sweet time and made us late. Now, Ms. Jarvis has left with someone else!" she'd said, her disappointment evident. Estella even doubted her father's ability to win Roxanne's affection and provide her with a mother.

Sensing his daughter's discontent, Lucian massaged his temples. He asked Archie and Benny, "Can I leave Essie with you two? I have to work and can't detour to her kindergarten. Do you promise to look after yourselves?"

The boys eagerly accepted the opportunity to spend time with their sister. "Of course! We'll take good care of Essie!"

Lucian turned to Estella, relieved to see a hint of a smile. Despite her earlier displeasure, the thought of her brothers cheered her. He knew his daughter best; insisting on kindergarten would only anger her until she saw Roxanne. It was better to leave her at home, playing with her brothers. Her mood would surely improve.

After leaving Estella in their care, Lucian waved goodbye and got into his car. Still feeling uneasy about leaving the children alone, he called Cayden, instructing him to arrange for men to watch the house and ensure the children's safety. Cayden readily agreed.

After hanging up, Lucian hesitated, Roxanne's number already pulled up on his phone. I should at least figure out who she's with right now, he thought, quickly dismissing the idea. Roxanne had never appreciated his snooping and had repeatedly explained her innocent relationships with Larry and Jack. Lucian simply refused to believe her. His suspicions had upset her many times. Calling her now and interrogating her would undo his efforts to improve his image with her. Despite his frustration, Lucian reined in his jealousy and pocketed his phone.
