Chapter 696: You Still Remember Me
When Roxanne checked her phone and saw it was noon, she realized she'd forgotten to arrange lunch for Archie and Benny before leaving.
"Excuse me, I need to make a call," she said apologetically, rising.
Jack, unsure of her purpose, simply nodded and watched her retreat to a quiet corner of the restaurant.
At home, Archie and Benny were watching television with Estella when the landline rang. Knowing their mother was the only one who would call, they rushed to answer.
"When are you coming home, Mommy? Essie's here to play!" Benny said, glancing at Estella. He then handed her the phone.
"Hi, Ms. Jarvis!" Estella chirped, grinning.
Roxanne's heart melted. "Hi, Essie! What are you doing here?"
"You were soaked in the rain yesterday. I was worried you'd get sick, so I came to check on you!" Estella replied.
"I'm sorry, Essie, but I won't be home for a while. I'll send someone with food, okay?" Roxanne said.
"Okay!" Estella agreed.
Roxanne instructed Archie and Benny to care for Estella before hanging up. She then called Madilyn, hoping she wasn't too busy.
"What's up, Roxanne?" Madilyn answered promptly.
"Are you home?" Roxanne asked.
Madilyn sighed. "Of course! Getting a few days off wasn't easy."
Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm out now. Archie, Benny, and Estella are at my house alone. I didn't prepare lunch; could you bring them some when you eat?"
Madilyn readily agreed, caring deeply for the children. However, she opted to order takeout for herself and the kids instead of cooking. She soon arrived at Roxanne's house with the food.
The children checked the intercom before opening the door.
"Hi, Aunt Madilyn!" Benny exclaimed, his eyes widening at the sight of the food.
Madilyn, unsure of their preferences, chose fried chicken and hamburgersโBenny's favorites, as it turned out.
"Your mommy couldn't make it, so I brought lunch. You can have fried food, right?" Madilyn asked, placing the food on the table.
Her gaze fell on Estella, sitting quietly. Remembering seeing her only once, Madilyn barely recognized the little girl. She approached Estella.
"You're Estella, right? Do you remember me?"
Estella blinked, nodded, and replied, "Yes! Nice to see you again!"
