Chapter 695: Not a Couple

Jack knew she'd invited him to lunch because of the hints he'd dropped, but he happily accepted seeing her smile. Although Roxanne paid, Jack drove and chose the restaurant.

Roxanne's jaw dropped upon arrival. Given Jack's status, she expected a fancy city restaurant. Instead, it was an old Chanaean establishment. Tastefully decorated, it offered inexpensive food, patronized mostly by white-collar workers and middle-class families.

"I'm used to Chanaean cuisine at home," Jack said with a smile. "I'm not sure if you'll like it, though."

Roxanne smiled. "Honestly, I've eaten Chanaean food for years while overseas."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? I thought you preferred Western cuisine."

They continued joking as they entered. The friendly waitress greeted them: "Good afternoon! Will you two require a private room?"

Jack instinctively looked at Roxanne.

"What do you mean by private room?" Roxanne asked, confused.

"Couples who dine here usually request a private room for more privacy," the waitress explained, smiling, clearly assuming they were a couple.

Roxanne offered Jack an apologetic smile, realizing the misunderstanding. "I'm afraid you've got the wrong idea. We're not a couple, so we won't need a private room."

The waitress looked at Jack in shock and disbelief. Jack simply smiled faintly. "We'll have a table by the window, please."

The waitress blushed slightly at his smile and seated them. Even after taking their order, she remained unconvinced they weren't a couple.

"I'm sorry, I don't know how she got the wrong idea," Roxanne apologized after the waitress left.

Jack chuckled nonchalantly. "No need to apologize. In fact, I feel honored to be mistaken for your boyfriend, Ms. Jarvis."

Roxanne froze, giving him a wary glance.

"You don't realize how amazing you are, Ms. Jarvis," Jack added calmly. "If people mistake me for your boyfriend, they'll think highly of me too. That's why I say it's an honor."

Relieved, Roxanne smiled. "You give me too much credit, Mr. Damaris. You're the truly excellent one here. Had you not introduced me, people wouldn't have known a nobody like me."

Jack's eyes, filled with admiration, met hers in a silent smile.
