Chapter 718: Surprised She Is Willing To Apologize

Despite her reluctance, Estella knew frequent visits were inevitable now that her father was pursuing Roxanne. Obediently, she slid off the couch, sweetly bid Roxanne farewell, and left with Lucian.

Only after Lucianโ€™s car disappeared did Roxanne return to the mansion with Archie and Benny. The boys, weary from a day of play and adult anxieties, yawned incessantly. It was late, so Roxanne sent them to bed and went to her study.

As the country's top medical family, the Damaris family, despite years of seclusion, commanded considerable attention. Their newly established research institute quickly gained notoriety upon completion. This time, they planned no secrecy; the list of collaborators would be publicized in the coming days. This list would not only represent the Damaris family's partners but also highlight Chanaea's leading doctors. As a member of this esteemed group, Roxanne felt the pressure to excel.

While engrossed in medical texts, her phone rang. It was Jack. She answered without hesitation. "Mr. Damaris, is something amiss at this hour?"

Jack's voice was somber. "Do you remember Ms. Jarvis, the Hightower family's daughter, who berated you while intoxicated?"

Roxanne searched her memory, finally recalling the woman. Preoccupied with Lucian and the project, she'd almost forgotten her. "Yes. Why?"

"My grandfather summoned me home this afternoon. He wants me to arrange a meeting; Jessica Hightower wishes to apologize in person. If you prefer not to, I can refuse," Jack explained.

Roxanne hesitated. It was Old Mr. Damaris's wish, but she wasn't sure a meeting was necessary. Respect for the elder, however, outweighed her reluctance.

Jack seemed to sense her conflict. "Don't worry about my grandfather. This won't reflect on your capabilities."

Roxanne smiled gratefully. "If Ms. Hightower is sincere, I'm willing to meet. Perhaps we can even be friends."

Jack was taken aback. "Forget about friendship. I'm surprised she's apologizing, given her temperament. The meeting might be unpleasant."

Roxanne, having only interacted with Jessica once, didn't fully understand her. Jack's warning weighed on her, but she felt obligated to grant Hector this favor. "Thank you for the warning, Mr. Damaris. I'll be cautious." The upcoming announcement of the Damaris family's collaborators made avoiding unnecessary conflict paramount.

Jack acknowledged her words. They exchanged goodnights and hung up.
