Chapter 774: Perceived Identities
Fortunately, their formulated spray worked instantly. Mere seconds after Roxanne sprayed the children, their itching ceased, leaving them only slightly dazed from the high fever. She then handed the spray to the man behind her. "Go deal with this in the bathroom, Mr. Farwell," she instructed.
Lucian nodded slightly and entered the bathroom. Roxanne, meanwhile, sprayed herself in the bedroom before spraying the room and sanitizing it with disinfectant. As she finished, Lucian emerged. Seeing her bustling about, he approached, intending to help.
"Carry the children out. This room must remain unoccupied for two days," Roxanne directed, noticing his intention.
Lucian immediately carried the children downstairs, placing them on the couch. He then returned to Roxanne's bedroom.
It was late, and Roxanne, drowsy from her efforts, was about to check on the children when she bumped into Lucian's chest. Before she reacted, he steadied her. After a moment, she pulled away. "Why are you back?"
"The children are asleep, so I came to see if you needed help," Lucian replied in a low voice.
Roxanne, holding the spray, nodded. "I've finished here. Next, you need to thoroughly sanitize your car."
Lucian grunted in agreement. They went downstairs and sanitized his car.
"Are there any valuables inside?" Roxanne asked, glancing at him. "The windows should be open all night for ventilation. The car can be used tomorrow."
Lucian shook his head. Roxanne fully rolled down all four windows, then reminded him, "Remember to sanitize your house tomorrow. This bacteria is highly contagious."
He murmured his assent and followed her back inside.
The children's symptoms were greatly improved after using the spray; they would be fine once their fever subsided. However, they were clearly uncomfortable sleeping on the couch, tossing and turning restlessly.
"Mommy, Daddyโฆ" Benny mumbled, his eyes fluttering open as they entered.
Roxanne assumed he was dreaming, but her heart skipped a beat. She glanced instinctively at Lucian. He frowned, suspecting Benny was dreaming of the man who abandoned him and his mother. He looked at Roxanne with a dark expression.
Unaware of his thoughts, Roxanne felt guilty, fearing he'd recognized Archie and Benny. His gaze darkened further as he met her eyes. They stared at each other, lost in their own thoughts, before Roxanne broke the silence. "Let's move them to the first-floor guest room. That room is still usable."
Lucian picked up Archie and Benny, and carried them to the guest room. Roxanne carefully scooped up Estella and followed.
