Chapter 775: In His Arms

After settling the three children, Lucian and Roxanne exchanged a look. The second floor was unoccupied, leaving only one guest room downstairsโ€”Lysa's. Roxanne pondered Lucian's lodging when he offered, "I'll sleep on the couch." He moved toward it.

Roxanne's brow furrowed slightly. However, considering it was nearly dawn and he might not sleep well even if he did, and she had no other option, she said nothing. She fetched a blanket from the guest room and gave it to him.

Lucian accepted it, murmuring, "It's late; you should rest as well."

Roxanne nodded subtly. Recalling Benny's sleep-talking, a strange feeling washed over her. She felt compelled to explain, "Benny had a strange dream. Please don't take it to heart, Mr. Farwell."

Lucian frowned slightly. He'd initially planned to ignore Benny's comment, considering her long day. Yet, she'd brought it up again.

"Archie and Benny have never had a father," Roxanne added, feeling uneasy at his silence.

Before she finished, Lucian coldly interrupted, "I know he was dreaming. I won't take it to heart."

Roxanne was momentarily stunned, then breathed a sigh of relief. His tone was unfriendly, but at least he'd made his position clear. Furthermore, he didn't seem to have grasped Archie and Benny's identities.

Saying nothing more, she briefly wished him goodnight and entered Lysa's room. Her emotions were a jumble. Sleep eluded her.

In the living room, Lucian wrestled with conflicting feelings. He lay on the couch, eyes closed, brow deeply furrowed. Sleep wouldn't come. He felt the urge to attend to work.

He'd barely moved when he heard a soft clickโ€”a door opening. Cautious footsteps followed, seemingly from Roxanne's room.

Lucian frowned but remained still, feigning sleep. She probably doesn't want to face me, he thought.

Roxanne, unable to sleep, had come for water. Upon leaving her room, her eyes immediately went to the couch. Seeing Lucian seemingly asleep, she tiptoed out.

After getting water, she passed the couch on her return. She glanced at the sleeping man. In the light from her room, she saw the blanket was half-off him, his brow deeply furrowed, suggesting restless sleep.

Assuming he'd kicked it off, she hesitated, then circled the couch and carefully tucked the blanket around him.

Before she could withdraw, Lucian awoke, his gaze sharp and frowning. In the darkness, Roxanne felt his eyes on her.

She looked up, meeting his dark gaze. She started to explain, but a large hand seized her wrist. The next moment, she was in his arms.
