Chapter 779: A Sigh of Relief
In the living room, Lucian had also stayed up all night. Early the next morning, the children saw Roxanne in their room as soon as they woke.
"Mommy!" Benny cried, his voice childishly enthusiastic. "I dreamed about you last night!" Roxanne's expression stiffened. She wondered if his "dream" referred to his nighttime visit to the living room and what he would think if he knew the truth.
Before she could dwell on it, Benny continued, "Hmm, it doesn't seem like a dream." He looked at her intently. "Did I go out of the room last night, Mommy?"
A mixture of emotions flooded Roxanne. Her first instinct was to deny it, but she knew she couldn't fool Archie and Benny. She nodded helplessly.
"I saw you and Mr. Farwell in the living room," Benny said innocently. "What were you two talking about, Mommy?"
Roxanne was speechless. She'd anticipated his question, but not its directness. As last night's events replayed in her mind, her face flushed crimson.
Archie and Estella, unaware of what transpired, were instantly curious. Roxanne's blush only intensified their interest. They had hoped for a breakthrough in Lucian and Roxanne's relationship, but never expected this. Benny's revelation, coupled with Roxanne's reaction, suggested something significant had occurred. Even their naivetรฉ couldn't mask the obvious.
Under their inquisitive gazes, Roxanne felt increasingly conflicted. Just as she pondered how to explain things, Lucian entered, a frown creasing his brow.
The children instantly quieted, while Roxanne felt a mixture of relief and apprehension. His arrival spared her from the children's questioning, but the memory of last night's events resurfaced at his sight, causing her to instinctively avoid his gaze.
"Good morning, Mr. Farwell," Archie and Benny greeted politely.
Lucian nodded, his gaze sweeping over Roxanne before settling on the children. "How do you all feel? Any discomfort?"
The children shook their heads. "Nope!"
Roxanne belatedly realized she'd been so focused on their interrogation, she'd forgotten to check on their well-being. Her concern for the children quelled her inner turmoil. She walked to them, suppressing her feelings under the watchful eyes of Lucian and her children. "Let me check you over."
The children's complete recovery was evident. They docilely lifted their arms, their eyes sparkling with amusement. Roxanne ignored their playful stares, checking each child. Seeing the red spots had faded, she breathed a sigh of relief.
