Chapter 778: So Cruel To Abandon An Adorable Daughter
Frightened, Roxanne obeyed and remained still. After regaining her composure, she struggled, only to be pinned beneath Lucian.
โI warned you,โ he said, his eyes narrowing. โIf you wriggle again, I make no promises.โ
Roxanneโs heart pounded as she stared into his face. She wanted to struggle but hesitated, remembering his threat.
Just then, a sound came from the childrenโs room. Both held their breath. As footsteps approached, Lucianโs brow furrowed. He released her and sat up, expressionless.
Free at last, Roxanne barely registered her relief before the childrenโs room door clicked open. The distance between her and Lucian suddenly struck her, jolting her. She quickly rose and stood aside.
Benny emerged, groggy and muttering, โMommyโฆโ Heโd been unwell, his sleep restless. Heโd woken seeking her.
At his voice, Roxanne glanced at Lucian before hurrying to Benny. โIโm here. Whatโs wrong?โ
Benny nestled into her embrace. The warmth induced drowsiness. He mumbled, vaguely sensing something amiss with Lucianโs presence on the couch, โWhy are you here, Mommy?โ
Roxanne recalled her recent ordeal, stiffening slightly. โI came for water.โ
Benny frowned, still sensing something off, but drowsiness overwhelmed him. His head tilted, and he fell asleep.
Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief. Stroking his head, she carried him to the room. Archie and Estella slept soundly, undisturbed by Benny. Roxanne placed Benny in bed, tucked in the others, and checked their foreheads. Their fevers had subsided. Relief washed over her.
Gazing at their sleeping faces, the tension from her encounter with Lucian eased. It was nearly dawn. She decided to stay and watch over them. Returning to Lysaโs room meant passing Lucian in the living roomโa prospect she dreaded after their recent altercation.
A sense of heaviness settled upon her. Estella stirred. Roxanne tensed, expecting her to wake. Instead, Estella murmured pitifully, โMommyโฆโ
Roxanneโs heart ached. Lucianโs words echoed in her mind: sheโd never seen her mother. What kind of woman could be so cruel as to abandon such an adorable daughter?
