Chapter 788: Am I Bothering You?
Although Lucian didn't directly answer her question, Estella was satisfied with his response and nodded obediently. Meanwhile, Roxanne was being questioned by her two boys.
"Mommy, did Mr. Farwell make you angry?" Benny, shadowing her like a puppy, asked.
Having been questioned for nearly half a day, Roxanne resignedly replied, "No."
"Then why did you ignore Mr. Farwell during lunch earlier?" Benny persisted.
Roxanne and Lucian hadn't exchanged a word during the entire meal. Neither responded to the children's attempts to facilitate conversation. Roxanne, in particular, seemed to avoid mentioning "Mr. Farwell," barely glancing at him.
Guilt pricked Roxanne's heart at her sons' questions. She'd ignored Lucian to avoid seeing his face and being reminded of the previous night's incident; the thought troubled her deeply.
"I'm just a little tired because I didn't sleep well last night," she excused herself after a moment, turning to head upstairs. "I'm going to rest. Play nicely, okay?"
Archie and Benny watched her go, their eyes suspicious. They sensed her lie, but knowing she hadn't slept well, ceased their questioning.
Back in her room, Roxanne felt a wave of relief in the silence. Lately, the boys seemed unusually interested in her relationship with Lucian. Were it not for their typically normal behavior, she might suspect they'd discovered something about their identities.
Just as she was lost in thought, her phone rang. Snapping to attention, she checked the caller ID. It was Jack; the project, no doubt.
She answered without hesitation.
"Am I bothering you?" Jack's voice inquired.
Roxanne composed herself, smiling. "No. I'm resting in my room. Is there a problem with the project?"
Jack's raised eyebrow and unhappy tone betrayed his question, "Am I only allowed to contact you about the project?" leaving Roxanne momentarily speechless.
Then, as if her perception had been a figment of her imagination, his voice resumed its usual calm. "Anyway, as you guessed, we need to collaborate with a pharmaceutical company for our project. I've been looking into Horington companies, and I think Herbscape Group is excellent. It took some convincing, but they've agreed to provide our follow-up medication."
The mention of the project dispelled the strange feeling. She smiled. "That's great. Herbscape Group is one of Horington's largest pharmaceutical companies. Our medicinal herb supply will be secure. Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Damaris. You've solved a huge problem for us."
Roxanne's research institute had been facing supply issues, all thanks to Aubree and Sonya's interference. Roxanne was genuinely delighted Jack had resolved the problem.
