Chapter 789
Jack smiled guardedly. "But Herbscape Group made a condition when they signed the contract."
"What's the condition?" Roxanne sensed it involved her; otherwise, Jack wouldn't have called.
"Their boss wants you to attend the contract signing ceremonyโa promotional event for their company." He hadn't realized Herbscape's motive until someone reminded him of the recent online news about her. Though the news had quickly subsided, it had undeniably boosted her profile among Horington's younger generation. Whether her fame stemmed from her beauty or medical achievements remained unclear. Herbscape's announcement of their collaboration with Damaris Group, and Roxanne's participation, would undoubtedly attract further attention, elevating their status in Horington. Jack found this amusing; apparently, even he, the eldest Damaris son, paled in comparison to Roxanne in Herbscape's eyes.
Roxanne was momentarily stunned. After a moment, she smiled. "If my attendance secures the agreement, I'll gladly comply."
Jack fell silent, then said apologetically, "I'm sorry for what happened. It's all my fault. I didn't help, and I'm truly sorry."
Roxanne was unsure what he meant.
"Mr. Farwell's actions against the Hightower family, wasn't it?" Jack guessed. He explained that when the Hightowers faced trouble, Stephen had sought Hector's help to intervene with Lucian. Hector, a long-time admirer of Roxanne, had learned of Jessica's drunken harassment and acted swiftly. Stephen had been furious.
Roxanne realized Jack referred to the previous online controversy. It made sense; the Hightowers' proximity to the Damarises explained Jack's knowledge. "Mr. Farwell did help me," she admitted.
Jack smiled understandingly. "Looks like Mr. Farwell treats you differently." His words stirred a strange feeling in her. She held her breath, fearing further comment. Thankfully, he stopped, returning to the original topic. "My grandfather wants me to apologize on his behalf."
"Old Mr. Damaris?" Roxanne was surprised.
Jack explained, "We fell for Jessica's plan. Grandpa, unaware of the situation, promised Stephen his help. He's regretted it ever since."
Touched, Roxanne smiled. "It's okay. It's in the past. Besides, Jessica was at fault. She received her punishment; that's all that matters."
She smoothly changed the subject. "When is the Herbscape Group signing ceremony?"
"Tomorrow night. Will you be free?"
Roxanne agreed.
