Chapter 800: Their Motive

Madilyn fell speechless. What? She had to go to work early tomorrow? Only when she saw Archie and Benny winking did she understand their game.

“As much as I’d love to stay and care for Roxanne, the hospital workload has been insane lately,” she sighed. “Would you be able to watch her for me, Mr. Farwell? Otherwise, I’ll have to take the day off.”

Satisfied Madilyn was playing along, the children shifted their gaze to Lucian, awaiting his response. Intending to care for Roxanne anyway, he simply met their expectant gazes and nodded.

This was strange. I remembered Archie and Benny being furious when I’d casually mentioned their biological father. I’d expected their hatred, yet they’d been helping me win Roxanne back, working as hard as Estella. With my daughter, it was simple; she just wanted Roxanne as her mother. With Archie and Benny, however, their motives were unclear. People might assume they liked me and wanted me as their father, but I sensed more than that. I think it's because they care about Estella and want to become her family. Consequently, they’d rather have me as their father than some stranger.

Madilyn was about to leave, but hesitated, seeing Lucian standing with Roxanne in his arms.

“You should take her to her room,” she reminded him. Honestly, I’m starting to question leaving her with him…

Her voice broke Lucian’s reverie. He nodded and carried Roxanne upstairs. Madilyn, Archie, and Benny followed, concerned.

After watching Lucian settle Roxanne into bed, Madilyn reminded him to care for her before leaving. As she walked out, she wondered if Roxanne knew her children were secretly helping Lucian. Could the boys have discovered Lucian’s paternity? If so, how would Roxanne react?

Archie and Benny were unaware Madilyn had pieced it all together. With innocent expressions, they watched Lucian in Roxanne’s bedroom.

After tucking Roxanne in, Lucian bent to give her water. He paused, surprised, turning to find the boys staring.

Archie and Benny froze, their gazes meeting.

A few seconds later, they recovered, smiling innocently at Lucian.

Lucian frowned. “You two…”

Archie and Benny tensed, maintaining their innocent façade. “What’s wrong?”
