Chapter 842: Do Not Care What It Takes
Lucianโs silence was so profound his breathing was clearly audible.
โLucian?โ Jonathan called, puzzled by the lack of response. He felt a growing tension, fearing heโd displeased Lucian.
A long pause followed before a low voice said, โYouโre responsible for the online furor, arenโt you?โ Lucianโs tone was impassive.
Jonathan pondered before admitting frankly, โIt was the quickest method. Dragging Herbscape Groupโs reputation through the mud might force them to approach us, begging for acquisition.โ
This response, atypical of Jonathanโs usual easygoing demeanor, was unsurprising. Heโd worked tirelessly to achieve his current position and solidify his familyโs standing in Horingtonโs business world. Besides Damaris Group, they were the only other family with comparable power. In business, sometimes despicable means were necessary.
Lucian frowned slightly. A strange feeling stirred within him, his thoughts drifting to Roxanne. He wanted to teach her a lesson, but this mess could undo all her hard work on the project.
Ultimately, Lucian hesitated. He couldnโt bring himself to be cruel to her.
Uneasiness grew in Jonathanโs heart. โAre you thinking my methods are deplorable?โ he asked. He worked for Farwell Group now; Herbscape Group would rely on them in the future. Such underhanded tactics were shameful for Farwell Group.
Regret pricked him. โIf you think itโs inappropriate, I can have them remove the discussions immediately. All damaging information will be completely deleted.โ
Lucian pinched the bridge of his nose, snapping out of his thoughts. He steeled his resolve. โNo need. You did very well.โ
Jonathan was flabbergasted. โThen whatโฆโ he began, wondering what Lucian had been pondering for so long.
Jonathanโs brow furrowed. โIs it because of Dr. Jarvis?โ he ventured, Roxanne being the only person he could imagine influencing Lucianโs change of heart.
Lucian continued as if unheard. โItโs simply how the business world works. Herbscape Group breached the contract first; they deserve a lesson.โ
His gaze darkened. His words were directed not only at Herbscape Group but also at himself. Since Roxanne didnโt know how to maintain distance from other men, he had to give her a wake-up call.
Though unspoken, Jonathan understood Lucianโs thoughts and his desire for silence. He shifted the subject. โIn that case, great! I thought you wouldnโt accept my methods.โ
Lucian smiled faintly, appearing unconcerned. โItโs just a bit of fun. As I said, as long as Herbscape Group falls, I donโt care what it takes.โ
Hearing Lucianโs response, Jonathan finally relaxed.
