Chapter 844: Give Me Some Time
After ending his call with Dean, Jack googled Herbscape Group and was overwhelmed by news headlines about the company. He read every article carefully, noting that every post was published that day. The person behind the exposรฉ clearly intended to cripple Herbscape Group. Jack raised his eyebrows in surprise.
He had to admit the individual who uncovered Herbscape Group's scandalous past was a brilliant mastermind. Only a skilled hacker could have unearthed the companyโs well-hidden secrets. This discovery significantly narrowed his circle of suspects. Few people in Horington possessed that talent and had a history with Herbscape Group.
Jack could only think of one personโLucian. Yet, Damaris Group and Herbscape Group had a long-standing collaboration. It seemed odd to be exacting revenge now. What was Lucian playing at?
Jack narrowed his eyes in thought. Just then, Dean called again, his anxiety evident. Jack snapped out of his reverie and answered.
Dean asked hastily, โMr. Damaris! What do you think? Herbscape Group canโt afford to wait any longer!โ Dean had considered his options and would appeal to Farwell Group for help if Jack refused. He would swallow his pride and beg if necessary.
Jack replied calmly, โDonโt worry. Damaris Group has chosen to collaborate with Herbscape Group, and we wonโt abandon you in times of trouble.โ
Despite the reassurance, Dean's concern remained palpable. โReally? How can I help?โ he asked.
After some hesitation, Dean said, โI hope Damaris Group can lend us funds to stabilize Herbscape Groupโs share price immediately.โ If their share price continued to plummet, Herbscape Group would face bankruptcy, even without the investigations from the State Taxation Administration and the International Trade Administration.
Jack frowned. โHow much?โ he asked.
Dean cautiously stated, โOne point two billionโฆโ He waited anxiously for Jackโs response.
That was a substantial sum, even for Damaris Group, especially for a company they had recently partnered with. Dean wouldn't be surprised if Jack refused. The likely outcomes were bankruptcy or a fire-sale acquisition by Farwell Groupโneither desirable.
Jackโs expression darkened slightly at Deanโs request. He considered the sum. One point two billion was a fortune, but Damaris Group could afford it. However, it wasn't necessarily worthwhile for a company like Herbscape Group. Normally, Jack would have terminated the contract; the penalty would be far less than Deanโs request.
But considering Lucian might be behind Herbscape Groupโs troubles, Jack was inclined to defy his usual instincts. If Lucian wanted to disrupt their plans, Jack wouldn't let him win so easily.
With that thought, Jack agreed. โAll right. Give me some time.โ He hung up.
