Chapter 869: Still Mad At Her

“Do you want me to keep this medicine for you?” Jack didn’t take the children seriously. He turned and threw the question at Roxanne.

Roxanne frowned, pondering. “It’s better to send it to the research institute. There’s no point in keeping it.”

“Then you’ll need to come with us,” Jack said.

Archie and Benny tensed, their grips on Roxanne’s dress tightening. Just as she was about to agree, she noticed their reaction and glanced at them with concern.

“Mommy, aren’t you unwell?” they finally asked, after a moment of contemplation.

Roxanne’s expression clouded; she thought of Estella.

“Forget it if you’re not feeling well. I’ll tell the staff,” Jack offered.

Roxanne pulled herself together, smiling. “It’s better for me to go, to avoid any problems.”

Jack subtly raised an eyebrow, his politeness apparently gone. The boys were anxious at Roxanne’s insistence on leaving. Mr. Damaris had said she didn’t need to go. Why did she insist?

“The kids seem to have something to say to you,” Jack said, getting into the car. “I’ll wait for you.”

Roxanne nodded gratefully and returned to the mansion entrance with the boys.

“Mommy, are you going out again?” Benny tugged pitifully at her dress.

Roxanne ruffled their hair apologetically. “I’m going to the research institute and will be right back.”

A slight crease appeared on Archie’s brow. “But what if Essie and Mr. Farwell come while you’re out?”

His words struck Roxanne hard. She hesitated.

Benny added, “Essie will be upset if she doesn’t see you.” And Daddy would be angry too. Compared to Estella, they worried more about Lucian; Estella was easy to please, but Lucian was not.

Roxanne was torn. However, she considered that Lucian was unlikely to bring Estella, as he was still angry with her. This medicine was hard to obtain, and she couldn’t risk anything going wrong. She had also agreed to go with Jack, who was waiting.

After considering this, she decided to proceed as planned.

“I’ll be right back. Be good and wait at home. If Essie comes, ask her to stay and call me immediately. Okay?”

Both Estella and the medicine were important; this was the only solution she could see.

Archie and Benny nodded obediently. “Mommy, come back soon.”

Roxanne smiled and nodded. “Go inside now.”

They reluctantly entered, and only after the door closed did Roxanne get into Jack’s car.

“Done?” Jack asked, his voice deep.

Roxanne smiled apologetically. “Sorry for the wait. The kids are young and don’t like me leaving. Let’s go!”
