Chapter 870: Why Are You Doing This?

A black Bentley, parked across the road from Roxanneโ€™s house, slowly pulled away. James, noticing a familiar figure, exclaimed to Lucian, โ€œThatโ€™s Dr. Jarvis. Is she leaving?โ€

Lucian frowned, looking towards Roxanneโ€™s house. He saw her entering a car, the driver revealed as Jack the moment the door opened. A grim look spread across Lucianโ€™s face. Heโ€™d believed Roxanne had realized her mistake. James, unaware of their history, simply saw a man in the car and asked, puzzled, โ€œIs that Ms. Jarvisโ€™ business partner? We should hurry; theyโ€™re leaving.โ€ He prepared to accelerate.

โ€œForget it. Turn around,โ€ Lucianโ€™s cold voice commanded.

Only then did James realize the shift in Lucianโ€™s mood. Suspecting a relationship between the man and Roxanne, he was momentarily speechless. Estella, sleeping soundly in Lucianโ€™s arms, remained oblivious. She stirred uneasily, groaning. Lucian glanced at her, his anger towards Roxanne intensifying.

James, hearing Estella, hesitated. Instead of turning around, he slowed, continuing towards Roxanneโ€™s house.

โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€ Lucian asked, displeased.

โ€œYou promised you wouldnโ€™t stop Essie from seeing Ms. Jarvis,โ€ James replied resignedly.

Lucianโ€™s brow furrowed. While he wouldnโ€™t want Estella upset, he questioned the point of seeing Roxanne if she wasn't sincereโ€”it felt like self-deception.

Seeing the car starting to drive away, James urged, โ€œTheyโ€™re leaving. Call Ms. Jarvis.โ€

Lucian stared at the departing car, his expression grim, the air around him seeming to chill. After a long silence, he showed no sign of reaching for his phone.

As the car disappeared, James pulled over, frowning. Estella stirred, clutching Lucianโ€™s clothes. Noticing her insecurity, James sighed, โ€œWhy are you doing this?โ€

He didn't know Lucian's feelings for Roxanne, but felt that adult issues shouldn't involve Estella. Her condition was unusual.

Instead of answering, Lucian asked, โ€œWhat else can we do to help Essie if we donโ€™t see her?โ€

After a pause, James replied, โ€œTake Essie home, to a familiar environment. Maybe sheโ€™ll improve.โ€
