Chapter 870: Why Are You Doing This?
A black Bentley, parked across the road from Roxanneโs house, slowly pulled away. James, noticing a familiar figure, exclaimed to Lucian, โThatโs Dr. Jarvis. Is she leaving?โ
Lucian frowned, looking towards Roxanneโs house. He saw her entering a car, the driver revealed as Jack the moment the door opened. A grim look spread across Lucianโs face. Heโd believed Roxanne had realized her mistake. James, unaware of their history, simply saw a man in the car and asked, puzzled, โIs that Ms. Jarvisโ business partner? We should hurry; theyโre leaving.โ He prepared to accelerate.
โForget it. Turn around,โ Lucianโs cold voice commanded.
Only then did James realize the shift in Lucianโs mood. Suspecting a relationship between the man and Roxanne, he was momentarily speechless. Estella, sleeping soundly in Lucianโs arms, remained oblivious. She stirred uneasily, groaning. Lucian glanced at her, his anger towards Roxanne intensifying.
James, hearing Estella, hesitated. Instead of turning around, he slowed, continuing towards Roxanneโs house.
โWhat are you doing?โ Lucian asked, displeased.
โYou promised you wouldnโt stop Essie from seeing Ms. Jarvis,โ James replied resignedly.
Lucianโs brow furrowed. While he wouldnโt want Estella upset, he questioned the point of seeing Roxanne if she wasn't sincereโit felt like self-deception.
Seeing the car starting to drive away, James urged, โTheyโre leaving. Call Ms. Jarvis.โ
Lucian stared at the departing car, his expression grim, the air around him seeming to chill. After a long silence, he showed no sign of reaching for his phone.
As the car disappeared, James pulled over, frowning. Estella stirred, clutching Lucianโs clothes. Noticing her insecurity, James sighed, โWhy are you doing this?โ
He didn't know Lucian's feelings for Roxanne, but felt that adult issues shouldn't involve Estella. Her condition was unusual.
Instead of answering, Lucian asked, โWhat else can we do to help Essie if we donโt see her?โ
After a pause, James replied, โTake Essie home, to a familiar environment. Maybe sheโll improve.โ
