Chapter 872: For Nothing
Aubree had stayed at the Farwell residence for some time, but Lucian rarely visited. Sonya had tried to encourage her stay, but Aubree eventually left. She had hoped Lucian would frequently visit because of Sonya, allowing her more time with him. However, she only saw him a few times. Instead, the private detective sent her photos, each showing Roxanne with Lucian. Rage consumed Aubree each time she saw them. She maintained composure, however, due to her daily interactions with Sonya and Elias.
Finally, Aubree had enough. She concocted an excuse to return to the Pearson residence, claiming reconciliation with her father. After all, she had already achieved her goal with yesterday's photos.
"Aubree? Why are you back? Where's Lucian?"
Gina, relaxing at home, was startled by Aubree's arrival and luggage. Having minimized contact with Aubree to conceal their deception from the Farwells, Gina was unaware of her daughter's situation.
Aubree tossed her luggage aside, a scowl etched on her face as she slumped onto the couch. Gina kept glancing at the door. Their plan aimed to sway Lucian's opinion. Aubree's return implied Lucian had relented and sent her home; yet, Gina saw no sign of her future son-in-law.
"Stop looking! I came back alone," Aubree snapped, reading her mother's thoughts.
Surprise registered on Gina's face. She rushed to the couch. "What's going on? Did you fight with Lucian again?"
Before Aubree could answer, Gina continued, "Moving into the Farwell residence wasn't easy. Didn't I tell you to control your temper to appease Lucian?"
Aubree glared. "Am I not humble enough in front of Lucian?"
Over the past six years, sheโd transformed herself around Lucian. "I'm not inferior to that woman in any way! I'm more obedient! But Lucian is madly in love with her. There's nothing I can do!"
"I'm sick of pretending!" Aubree slammed the couch.
Though sympathetic, Gina said, "Aubree, we've waited years. Wouldn't it all be for nothing if we give up now?" She sighed. "How can I bear to see you suffer? Think about itโafter the storm, there's calm. It'll all be worth it after you marry Lucian. We'll have everything we want."
Aubree frowned, clenching her fists. It's not that I want to give up; it's that Lucian isn't giving me the chance.
