Chapter 889: Like Her
Catalina quickly comforted Estella, saying, โItโs okay. Have a good rest, Ms. Estella. Iโll massage your eyes.โ
Estella nodded aggrievedly and leaned against Lucianโs chest. Lucianโs gaze was pitch-black as he glanced at her.
After a while, Estella awoke, remembering the events preceding her sleep. โDaddy, whereโs Ms. Jarvis?โ she asked, tugging at Lucianโs shirt. โMr. Lann said sheโd be back soon.โ
Lucian hadnโt anticipated Estella mentioning Roxanne. His expression hardened; he didnโt know how to respond. He knew Estella would be upset if she learned heโd prevented Roxanneโs visit, but he couldnโt lie.
โIs Ms. Jarvis not here yet?โ Estella asked Catalina innocently.
Catalina, remembering Roxanneโs previous visits, glanced at Lucian. He remained impassive. Hesitantly, she shook her head. โI think Ms. Jarvis is still busy. Wait a little longer, okay, Ms. Estella?โ
Estellaโs gaze fell; sheโd expected to see Roxanne immediately. โDaddy,โ she said again, tugging at his shirt.
Lucian met her gaze. With an innocent expression, Estella asked, โDaddy, could you call Ms. Jarvis? Could you get her to come sooner?โ
Lucianโs gaze darkened. He remained silent.
โI want to see Ms. Jarvis,โ Estella said aggrievedly.
Lucian patted her head. โI know.โ
Estella, noticing his avoidance of her question, realized his anger toward Roxanne might persist. Anxiously, she asked, โAre you still angry at Ms. Jarvis, Daddy? Donโt be angry anymore, okay? Iโd be very sadโฆโ She sniffled.
Estella genuinely believed Lucian was still upset about the previous dayโs events. Lucian merely frowned, remaining silent until Estella seemed on the verge of tears. Remembering Jamesโ advice, he said in a low voice, โIโm not angry anymore.โ
โThen why is your expression so grim?โ Estella questioned.
โBecause Iโm worried about you,โ Lucian said, forcing a smile.
Estella didnโt dwell on it, even offering consolation. โDonโt be scared, Daddy. Iโm fine. I just want to see Ms. Jarvis, Archie, and Benny. Daddy, could you take me to Ms. Jarvisโ? If sheโs still at work, itโs fine. I can wait for her there.โ She knew waiting at Roxanneโs would ease her anxiety.
โDo you like Ms. Jarvis that much?โ Lucian asked.
Estella nodded earnestly. โAs much as I like you, Daddy.โ
Lucian frowned, his gaze darkening. โWhy?โ
Estella struggled to answer, furrowing her brows before giving up. โI donโt know.โ She knew only that Roxanne was kind, and โMs. Jarvisโ smell makes me feel safe.โ
