Chapter 904: Did You Have Another Fight?

Roxanne sensed the childrenโ€™s anxiety and suppressed her own emotions. โ€œIโ€™m not mad,โ€ she said. โ€œIn fact, I want to thank you for comforting Essie.โ€ While their actions had caused a misunderstanding with Lucian, she knew Estellaโ€™s mood wouldn't have improved without them.

The children visibly relaxed but remained cautious. Archie crawled into her embrace, promising, โ€œSorry, Mommy. We wonโ€™t run off by ourselves again.โ€ Despite the dim car light, Roxanneโ€™s exhaustion was evident. Archie, though initially unconcerned, now felt a pang of guilt. Benny, too, sought his motherโ€™s comfort and apologized. Roxanne hugged them tightly, patting their heads. โ€œI know you were just worried about Essie,โ€ she said. The children nodded; their concern for Estella was genuine, but they harbored another secret.

On the drive home, Roxanne tensed, seeing the lights on at the mansion from afar. Reaching the door, she was about to ask the children to wait while she investigated when the doorknob turned.

โ€œYouโ€™re finally back!โ€ Madilyn exclaimed, relief washing over her at the sight of the three. She had gone straight to Roxanneโ€™s house after leaving the Farwell residence, anxiously awaiting their return. Madilyn had been terribly worried about the boys.

Roxanne, too, felt relief at seeing her friend, a rush of emotions following. โ€œAunt Madilyn,โ€ the boys greeted, puzzled by her presence.

With a serious expression, Madilyn knelt to meet their gaze. โ€œLet me see if youโ€™re okay.โ€ Only after confirming their safety did she begin to scold them. โ€œDo you know how worried you made your mother and me this afternoon? Youโ€™re not to run off again without telling us. Do you understand? If you must, at least inform your mother.โ€

The boys, hearing this, realized their mother had enlisted Madilynโ€™s help. Their heads bowed, they apologized, โ€œWeโ€™re sorry, Aunt Madilyn. We will do that next time.โ€

Madilyn glared reprovingly. โ€œItโ€™s a good thing you had those watches on you. Remember to keep them on always, okay?โ€ The children nodded quickly.

Only then did Madilyn stand, her gaze falling on Roxanneโ€™s weary face. โ€œWhat happened? Are you and Mr. Farwellโ€ฆโ€ She paused, remembering the childrenโ€™s presence.

Knowing what Madilyn wanted to ask, Roxanne smiled, maintaining a facade of normalcy. โ€œNo. Iโ€™m just really tired today.โ€

Madilyn gave her a skeptical look but decided against pressing further. The ordeal of searching for two lost children was undoubtedly exhausting. Even without knowing the specifics of the Farwell residence incident, she knew it had taken a toll on Roxanne.
